I've been reading a lot about these R4 spring issues and would like to ask something. Is it possible to just slide the card out? Ie, insert it the normal way the first time and, after that, just slide it out? Or isn't that possible or is it even more damaging?

In my experience, it is possible to just slide it in and out. But, as far as if it'll damage your card, I'm not sure. I've been using this method for about 4 months, and no problems yet. [IMG]

Yeah, but I was thinking of doing it with a properly working spring. Think of it as a preventive measure, so I won't have to open up the cartridge and remove the spring later on.

My spring is DEAD, can I still slide it in & out? I am using a tape to keep them together. It's only 3 mths OLD. I think thats the only cons abt R4. Help me please, i am really desperate.

If you want to keep the spring and just slide in and out after putting the spring into the R4 instead of clicking it just remove it (the spring should stay in place and allow you to use it by pulling it and pushing it in.)

The best way to keep the spring so it will be ok is to take out the card when not in use and it will keep your spring nice and springy. The spring being compressed causes a lot of pressure on each side of the spring, the spring being to strong for the clip than holds the micro sd card in place is the whole problem.

Summery, to use the spring and to keep it in good condition, place the MDS card in the holder instead of the R4 when not in use.

It would be a dumb idea to leave the spring compressed because it would cause more problems than initially possible.

Just one thing to keep in mind, the R4 is out selling every other card buy about 100 to1. And the spring problem has happened to about 1% of all these R4’s, it’s a very small percentage of people that have had a spring problem compared to the amount of R4’s sold. Between friends & me we have 6 R4’s & have never had a spring problem, & although it’s true the R4’s spring is not the strongest one out there, my SC-Mini spring has broke on me. Remember these are cheep pirate cards made in China, it’s amazing they work as well as they do.

If you're going to take apart your cart, why not just buy a new spring?
    (if that's possible)
I'm just assuming the springs look like normal springs that you find on the insides of pens [IMG]

When inserting the card, as soon as I hear the clicking, I let it go. If I push all the way down, it bounces back.. And I'm having no problems while taking it out. Just pushing it and it comes out itself.

This actually is a very common (sadly flawed) method.
This can be done and it works for some but this is a temp fix.
