When I close my ds during a game, instead of having the hardware and screens turn off and have the green light slowly blink, the ds keeps going back and forth into sleep, with the screens turning on and off each second like a flickering light. I can hear the noise that the ds makes when it comes out of sleep mode each time this happens. Does anyone know what's wrong or how to fix it? I dont think I can send it to nintendo as it's out of warranty.

Would seem to be a hardware issue. Get a relatively strong magment, and place it on your ABXY pad (could be the D-Pad though......). If it does the same, it's probably a problem with the switch

Oh, and this magnet simulates the DS'S speakers, the magnet is one of them trips the switch for sleep mode when it's closed

Oh so that's how sleep mode works? the speakers are magnets that trigger something on the dpad or abxy pad?

    I'll give it a try.

EDIT: Just tried it, its the ABXY pad and for some reason after doing this it stopped the whole sleep-flicker thing. I guess it needed a jumpstart or something. [IMG]

anyway, thanks a lot for the fast reply kellyan95!

Bad news guys. On a fresh boot, played zelda and it started again. =__= Putting the magnet over the ABXY pad has the same effect as closing the lid.

Anything I can do to fix this?

    It's useful for playing music.

My brother is using it for music at the moment as his iPod is being fixed. I however have an mp4 player for playing my music.

My gameboy is for gameplay and music creation only.

Do you have a slot2 flash cartridge? If so, put a game in your slot1, that should fix it.

If you are using an old style (one of the first produced batches) passkey in slot1, you may have to replace it with an original cartridge after booting. There's also a way to solder the right pins on the outside to fix it, if you're looking for a permanent solution. But since you said it's not working anymore, I assume it used to work, so this is probably not the issue.

This usually only happens to slot 2 solution when you flash it and there is no official game cart in the slot 1. The Ds would not go to sleep and the screen and volume would be constantly turning on and off. Or it is possible if you didn't flash it you are using a passkey that doesn't support sleep mode such as an old version of the Max Media Launcher. Simply swap out the passkey and insert a official game cart after booting up the slot 2.

    Over there.
Or buy a dummy card. Five bucks. Only if you use a slot 2 though.
