sky3ds plus with 3ds rom can it play the update on nintendo eshop update?

for example i have a 3ds rom of super smash bros but i want it updated to the latest so i download
the update using nintendo eshop update of the same game
will it work?
will i get the updated game?
has anyone done this?
cause i recently bought a sky3ds plus

From what I understand yes it will work your just downloading patch files. Since the Sky3ds is identical to a real card you shoudl have no issues. You can even download DLC perfectly fine as well.
