I just got my Sky3DS today and after two hours I cannot get it to load any roms (let alone write them).

It gives me an error that it says there is no resource data please update template file. I did update template file and still same error. I also tried renaming the roms to whats in the settings.ini file and it did not help.

I did rename it from settings.ini to template.txt.

Do I need to rename the roms?

I tried formatting the card 3 times.

Can anyone help please?

Oh, and I have even tried a different version of Diskwriter and it did not help.

I selected the proper template file. Where is "rom from other source" located at? It's not on my menu options.

and I am using a USB adaptor, not a micro one.

Here is what I have tried so far:

Different memory card
Different USB adapter
Different computer
reinstalled .net 4.0
Diskwriter 1.0 and 2.02
different settings.ini renamed to template.txt
loaded new template.txt
renamed rom file to what's in the template.txt

What the heck am I missing? Anyone?

Thanks.

I tried 5 different roms, all from usenet.

Do I need to rename any files or will it load them automatically?

I have also followed at least 4 different tutorials on how to do this so I don't think I'm missing anything.

I load up diskwriter as admin, I select "write", I select the .3ds file I want. (after loading the newest template.txt). This is where I get the error at.

That happens with any rom and I've tried 10 different ones. All of them are supported.

shoudln't this be simple?

I tried mine a couple of days ago when i got it and all i did was:

ran h2wtest to test my micro sd card was good, after it passed i ran the diskwriter ( DiskWriter V2.02b1 ) software as admin
formatted the card via diskwriter

Then on change template i inserted the newest one ( 4/23/15)

Pick a game and put write and it worked fine

I am using a no brand 16 gb micro sd class 10 with 13 mb write speeds and 15 mb read speeds.

I did rename it from settings.ini to template.txt

There's your problem; settings.ini is meant to be settings.ini.
Template.txt is its own file, the download button is right next to that of settings.ini, and should download a file in the format of templateXYZ.txt (template423.txt as of this posting).

Settings.ini renamed is still valid text, but no actual template data is located within it, thus diskwriter cannot find anything.

Why are you renaming settings.ini to template.txt? NO!!!!

You must DL Diskwriter 2.02b1. In that folder is a settings.ini file.

Now go to Sky3DS DOWNLOADS site and download both the TEMPLATE.TXT and the SETTINGS.INI. Put them both into your Diskwriter 2.02b1 folder replacing the SETTINGS.INI file already there.

Now put mSD into USB adapter. Plug directly into PC USB port.

Open Diskwriter (use admin if you are not admin)

Select your mSD drive>OK

Diskwriter should show.

FILE>FORMAT>OK

OPTIONS>CHANGE TEMPLATE>select new templateXXXX.txt file

FILE>WRITE>select your .3ds ROM file.

When it is done, close Diskwriter. Put mSD into Sky3DS.

Put Sky3DS into 3DS. Sky3DS will blink blue light. Wait for it to stop. No games show. Eject Sky3DS. Put it in again. Wait for blue light to stop. Game should show. Eject Sky3DS, put it in again. Game should show.

Play game.

I have formatted it with the diskwrite utility, I have done all of the steps listed above.

Same error.

Wait, I think we are making progress. It's doing something different now.

OK!

I got it!

Whew! It was incompatible with my version of Windows 7. I had to switch to a PC with Windows Vista and got it going. Geeesh.

Thanks for all the help guys.
