Did you actually check the lower screen? What does it say? Were you following 3ds.guide? Do you have an Old or a New 3DS?
You may be missing a file required for the installation process. Double check each step and ensure that you have every file listed in the guide in the right location.

i have a9lh. lower screen says syghax firm file not found. it has the checklist and it fails at that point.
Double check that you have boot9strap.firm and boot9strap.firm.sha in your boot9strap folder on your SD card. If you have a New 3DS you'll also need secret_sector.bin in that same folder.
Pretty sure i have it but let me check again

I added both boot9strap.firm and boot9strap.firm.sha to the boot9strap i have boot.3dsx, boot.firm and Safe9Installer.bin installed i have done all the steps and it still says...

Check lower screen for info.

Put the files in the boot9strap folder
They are. I had copies of the files, in the folder, and outside. Deleted the ones outside the folder, reinstalled the ones in the folder. No dice.

EDIT: It turns out that I mislabeled the boot9strap folder. I fixed it, and it seemed to work. I followed the key combo, and the machine went dark. I can't get it to start up.
