Shovel Knight joins Rivals of Aether roster

Though Shovel Knight achieved Assist Trophy status in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, that won't be the only appearance the character will be making in a fighting game this year. The titular character from Yacht Club Games' indie hit will be joining Rivals of Aether as a new roster addition. Rivals of Aether is a Smash-like 2D sprite based party fighting game, where you have to knock other players off a stage, much like the game that it's based on. This marks the second guest character pack for the game, following Ori from Ori and the Blind Forest, who was added last year. You'll be able to play as Shovel Knight when he launches later this fall, for $4.99, on both Steam and Xbox One.

I really cannot play any other game that is smash-inspired if it's not Nintendo's. I think the characters are just the most remarkable thing of most of the game, and getting all of them out to replace with different ones, it kind just loses the whole essence of it tbh. I think the only game that sounded interesting to me even not being Nintendo's is the Jump Force one. But apart from that, no other "smash" game has really interested me.

FINE! I'll be the only one who likes this post. *Sits with his Shovel Knight Amiibo* :ninja:

Never heard of this game before, but if it's on switch I may try it. :)

Kinda happy but sad at the same time, glad he is a popular character but sad he being reduced to cameo appearances like Rash from battletoads. :P

This inclusion makes me wonder if Smash will use Shovel Knight's RoA moveset, in the event that he becomes playable in a future installment a la Little Mac or Charizard.

Other than that, loving the spritework they put on him. He looks incredibly fluid.

I've never heard of this game until now.

Holy crap I NEED this in my life!
Never really played Rivals of Aether that much, but, for what it's worth, it has a damn catchy soundtrack and some cool pixel art, especially on the backgrounds.

The creators of Shovel Knight wished for it to become a household name, kinda like Mario. Seems they got their wish, or are ever on their path to it at least. Shovel Knight the game was a resounding success, and now you not only have appearances in indie games like this, but in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, too. What other indie character gets to stand alongside AAA titans in one game?
