Not everyone for the sake of health can go and do "motion" outside. So I say it should stay, as an option to everyone that can't do "outside motion". In the process they also have some fun, unless the games are from M&S, which are crap.

I'd say it's pretty much obsolete for flat-screen gaming, but it's a necessity and the ideal control method for VR.

There is a place for motion controls, and that place is not IN EVERY SINGLE GAME EVER MADE FOR YOUR CONSOLE JUST BECAUSE IT HAS MOTION SENSORS, UNTIL EVERYONE IS SICK OF THE POORLY DONE AWKWARDLY IMPLEMENTED FORCED MOTION CONTROLS IN EVERY SINGLE GAME so um yeah. Motion gaming should stay.

I think it should be one of those things people who want a controller pay extra for if they truly want it, and if it leads to controllers getting better build quality (cheap joystick modules, anyone? Even on controllers for the l33t?) to justify their current asking price.

Personally, outside of emulating Wii games, I want nothing to do with motion controls myself. And while I appreciate their inclusion in modern controllers, if I could save, oh, IDK, like, $10-20 on a DS5 or Switch Pro Controller and get a better d-pad/joysticks that won't drift for reasons that have nothing to do with neglect on the part of the user, then I think giving consumers more options is the way to go!

The problem with motion games is that the wii pretty much forced it upon video gamers, which became even worse when Microsoft and Sony followed suit.

Let's be blunt here : most video gamers only want to sit down and press buttons and /or use a joystick and /or mouse. Standing up isn't as relaxing, using while movement gestures isn't as rewarding. And that's okay. Exercise shouldn't be forced upon someone (well... Perhaps by a doctor, but let's assume we've got a normal physique here).

But... Nobody forced everyone to go out and get wii sports. It was fun for what it was, and it still is. Though I haven't played it in years, I still love my balance board. It's a shame Nintendo forgot about that, as it was MUCH better than the gimmicks they often come up with.
Heck... It's a shame that the best virtual exercise workout program is a game from ten years ago that focuses on a younger audience.

That was my thought as well ... the Wii and others that followed pioneered the concept and developed methods of gameplay, but it's pretty stupid for 2-D screen action. With VR though, pretty much the only option.

Guess it depends what you mean. Gyro-assisted aiming absolutely should not go and should become the norm for first and third person shooters. For that reason alone I see a future for motion gaming.

Anybody who voted for it to go should watch the 3-part saga of why motion controls don't suck by Nerrel:

I like motion controls if done right. one of my favorites is skyward sword, so I might play the hd version with those skyward sword joycons. though, the joycons in general are a bit small for my hands. the wiimote and nunchaku were perfect size imo.

The Wiimote was a joy to hold as it was made for adult hands to play Wii bowling. The Joycons on the other hand are way too small.

I have the skyward sword wiimote and the gold nunchaku. the gold nunchaku was a prize given out to club Nintendo members in Japan, which imo was far better than the shit that North America got. I think we got a deck of playing cards. anyway, I bought it from a seller for $70, just never used it with skyward sword. it'd be awesome if Nintendo added wiimote functionality to the switch. Nintendo has said that it's possible to do, but they haven't decided if they'd add it or not.

I find it useful for playing shooters with a controller, it feels natural and in many cases can actually be more convenient than mouse and keyboard imo.

Outside of that, forced motion controls like in Skyward Sword are a plague. I don't mind motion controls like that but if they're enforced in a way that makes an alternative means of play impossible then that's a terrible situation. It makes games much less accessible for disabled people (or just people who don't like flailing their arms around to swing a sword lmao).

I wouldn't really count the steam controller vid as part of the trilogy, it's more of a spin-off in my eyes

So you refuse to move your hand to move a mouse?
