Hey guys.

I have a question: Should I update to 11.1? I have steelhax installed and I have no CFW. I'm a newbie with hacking and homebrew. I know about cias and stuff but I have no idea about CFWs but I wanna learn more about Homebrew because I'm interested in this.

Should I update if I want to learn more about these things or would it be bad?

If he says he has no CFW that most likely means he's on 11.0 and can't do it anyway.
He still can if he has someone with a a9lh 3DS already installed and could do the Dsi-Downgrade method

you don't have to update to 11.1 you can use this [https://github.com/yellows8/ctr-httpwn/releases] to spoof the fact that you're on 11.1. This means you can still go online and stuff

Yeah i know but the average user doesn't have a second 3DS with A9LH.

Nope I sadly don't have friends who use a 3DS with Homebrew since Nintendo somehow died out in my city lel

I already know about ctr-httpwn. I used it to install steelhax on 11.0 after the 11.1 release. I asked if I should update it because I saw that the Home Menu changed and if it is a big and a good change.

Oops I added my answer in the quote. I'm still new to GBAtemp.

It isn't. We haven't had a non-"stability" update in almost 2 years. (Last one was 9.6, released in March 2015)

If it's just a stability update then I won't update but whats a ntr?

Oh yeah I want to install CIAs but I heard it got patched with 11.0. Is there a new way already?

NTR is a sudo CFW witch allows you to stream your 3ds screen to your pc and redirect the 3ds input to a controller. it also allows to use cheats on some games (like gameshark or Actionreplay). also to answer the CIA's you cant without a CFW, but if you get someone to help you with the Dsi Downgrade method. its easy to get a cfw setup and installed

You can downgrade it only with another 3DS with CFW already. I can do that for you if you want. You can then get A9LH + CFW so basically everything you want!
You'd only need to cover the shipping costs back and forth + the game necessary (5/10 euro's or something)

I have 2 friends with a 3DS but I don't know if they would help me with that and I don't think they would like that I mod their 3DS. Also do they need an old firmware? If thats the case then it's impossible for me now.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

    How are you doing?

There's also this thing where I'm hyperfocused at night and cannot get to sleep.

    @Maximumbeans, I'm doing alright, thanks.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

@Maximumbeans, I had a friend who had a glass chess set for their birthday.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
