LOL. No. As i said, the 3DS will get a true successor soon. Like the DSi, it arrived in 2009 and in 2011 we had the 3DS. The same will happen now. The so called "New 3DS" is so much underpowered is not even funny. Even the cheapest smartphone could produce better graphics right now.

It makes no sense to buy the same overpriced system AGAIN, just to play 1 or 5 or even 10 exclusive games. Those exclusive games will still be around when the backwards compatible "4DS" appears 2 years later and costs 200$...

5 bucks says cia versions of these " New 3DS exclusive" games will run on the "old" 3DS

It is not impossible, but it depends on the exclusives coding. I am absolutely sure than if someone was dedicated enough, he could hack the exclusive cias to run on the original console, with some modifications. It depends on how much more RAM the exclusives will demand, since that is the big obstacle, but i don't believe they will use that much. There may be problems with the controls though.

If you can afford to buy it full price then do so. You can always sell it for a small loss down the line if GW doesn't deliver or sell the old 3DS if you are satisfied with GW's N3DS support.

If more games ship with N3DS exclusive features (or are exclusive) after N3DS's start shipping with 9.3+ I'm sure a lot of people will have wished they upgraded when they could.

I agree, I can always sell it, and a tad bit of lose doesn't matter too much to me. Like I said, I can afford buying it full price, and if not for the new features, atleast because the limited editions look so sweet.

You have a good point, and, bar the few changes, it is pretty much the same system. However, when a backwards compatible ''4DS'' comes out, I may not be lucky enough to get a limited edition at normal price. Also, I don't think we'll see a majora's mask 3DS as sweet as this one anytime soon, if ever at all.

On another note, while there are quite a few games I really like on my Note 4 phone, I still feel very strongly that it can never truly replace a handheld, not even when I buy a controller for it. But that's just me, of course.

No, what i meant with the phone comparison was that the 3DS is underpowered compared to its price. Of course a smartphone can't replace a dedicated handheld, mostly because of controls but also because a dedicate handheld is more efficient with its OS.

But, i believe that there are good Android tablets out there with physical buttons, like my Archos Gamepad 2 i bought for 2/3 the price of a 3DS back in July. While it is far more powerful specwise, and can run far more demanding games even with an unoptimized Android 4.2.2 . In the future, there will be even better options out there. I really look forward to an Archos Gamepad 3 myself...

As for the limited edition thing, i don't get it. The only reason i want those devices is for the games. I don't care for their exterior in the slightest. But it seems for some people, appearence matters. If you want a Majora Mask coat of paint that badly, that you are willing to pay 200$ for a device you (almost) already own, then be my guest...

Hey guys,

I currently own a 3DS XL running firmware 4.4 something which I use in combination with Gateway 3DS. However, I am planning on buying the New 3DS XL and my go to videogame store has a trade in offer.

If I trade in my 3DS XL I can get the limited edition Monster Hunter 4 N3DSXL for 99 euro's instead of 230 euro (I live in the Netherlands). I want to keep using Gateway, but I figure that if support for the N3DS is somewhat close, it won't really matter.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Should I keep my 3DS XL and just buy the N3DSXL at the regular price? Or is a trade in the way to go?

Thanks for your advice!
Gotta wait, man. Don't do it

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. There are indeed very good tablets out there with proper controls. However, games wise, I personally feel that Android is a bit lacking in the triple A department. But again, that's just my personal view.

I completely understand and respect your point, and a coat of paint doesn't matter to me in most cases either. As a matter of fact, I have a Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita, WII U and 3DS but none of them are a collectors or limited edition. The same goes for all my games. However, I just happen to really like these editions, and since I want to buy the New 3DS XL sooner or later, I figured, why not do it sooner! After all, getting a regular 3DS XL with game amounts to 240 euros in my go to store. While the limited edition's come with a game for 230.

Anywho, like I said, I understand your point, and I appreciate all the input.

Gotta wait, man. Don't do it

Are you saying, don't trade in and buy the New 3DS XL or are you saying, don't buy the New 3DS XL at all? :P

That's good news, When gateway gets released it should work on it, but you are limited to emunand 9.4, so no eshop access :/

Ah I see, great! Thank you for your explanation. I don't worry about eShop access to much right now. I plan to learn how to use CIA files tonight. You can download updated CIA's, which means that, even though it's a method that takes longer, you won't need eShop access to update games, right?

Sure there will be a successor, that is obvious. But you are acting like 2 years is some non-existent time to wait. If you want an upgrade to the 3DS with built in CPP, better 3D and exclusive game(s)/features then there is the option to do so now. And at a relatively small price since you can trade in your old 3DS and upgrade for ~$100.

People happily bought the DSi since it offered exclusive features and was an upgrade over the DS. You act as if Nintendo is somehow tricking everyone into buying one of these. It's a consumer product, if people want it they will buy it. The Vita can let you know how that is going.

You say it makes no sense, others might agree and disagree with that statement. Don't act as if your word is fact when it is an opinion.

I'm sorry, but I'm not selling either 3DS if I am buying the New 3DS full price. The old model will be for backup and gatway purposes. Perhaps you can strike a deal on eBay or something? :O

Has the price of 4.x 3ds consoles on ebay or other online marketplaces come down yet since we have downgrading abilities now? If not, you'll get more money selling it online and put that cash towards a n3ds!

No, it is not 100$, it is more usually, but even 100$ is not cheap for what you are getting as an "upgrade". If you want the buttons, just get the CPP for much cheaper, better 3D is not that useful, most do not use it and even if you do, it is not that hard to just don't move your head every second, and last but not least, the exclusive games are this 1: Xenoblade on a lower resolution screen, a mediocre game from a mediocre console.

I really like this reply. :P

Man, the old 3DS sucks, get the new one, much better. Sell the older sucky model to me for cheap, you won't need it, since you will get the much more improved version, and you will get to play this one exclusive game... I don't need the older model too, i mean, it just sucks, but please sell it to me...

Plenty of people disagree with you and have purchased N3DS's or have them preordered n the US and Europe. We get it, you don't want one for several reasons. Others do. I'll leave it at that.

I know. Plenty of people have more money than sense. But those people are getting fewer and fewer each generation, and sooner rather than later Nintendo will become the next SEGA. There were plenty of SEGA fans once upon a time who purchased everything as well. Look where that got them.

They are going for around 120 euros it seems. Ebay always takes a cut, so in the end, it doesn't make that much of a difference actually!
