Should i switch from Chrome to Firefox?

I am currently trying out Firefox, unfortunately, its not as fast as chrome, its about a second or two slower than chrome. However I'd really like to switch to Firefox because it's got a lot of great extensions, and a great interface and awesome themes.
Is it really worth risking browsing speed for all these neat features? Is there at least a way to boost browsing speed in Firefox? Because I'd really like to switch to it.
Or should i stick with Chrome? Is there a better benefit in staying with Chrome?

Use whichever one you like more. As long as your browser stays up to date with all the latest security patches, it doesn't matter which one you use.

I personally use Google Chrome purely because it seems faster, and that's one of the most important things to me about a browser.

"Better" is purely subjective based on your desires but I would say just try both of them (and other good ones like Brave or Vivaldi) and then just decide which one you like best.

Well despite using Chrome for nearly a decade now, i truly adore the stuff Firefox has to offer, despite having the instincts of using Chrome, i think i can get used to Firefox because of how good the features are.
I wanna keep using Firefox, though i'll have to get used to how a little bit slower it is, and how it'll be late on the latest web features.

Always used firefox, easier and faster for me. Except for mobile i use uc browser, because i can disable images so i can save data + it's much easier and faster.

I'd personally recommend switching to Pale Moon instead because I've found that Firefox is becoming just another Chrome clone.

Their both ok TBH, i really liked firefox when I used to use it and its not really a whole lot slower than chrome, so id say make the switch if you would like those neat extensions

Oh and for mobile, use Puffin browser, cuz it's the fastest and most customisable

Get Fasterfox Lite and set it to the Turbo setting. Last time I checked speeds with it were comparable to Chrome, not sure if that's still true though.

I switched from Firefox to Chrome because Firefox was a god damn ram hog, while Chrome is light-weight and does basically everything that it should. For email notifications I've got my cheapskate Android phone to alert me.

This is probably the first time I've ever seen Chrome called "light-weight" in my entire life. I dunno if maybe you just had a bunch of crap on Firefox that increased it's RAM usage or something, but Chrome is anything but "light-weight". It's a bigger RAM hog than Firefox is when it comes to pretty much anything, causes CPU spikes all the time, there used to be a "scandal" that Chrome would kill battery life on laptops faster than other browsers...Granted, recent Firefox releases have been catching up on resource usage, but it's still not nearly as bad as Chrome is.

But anyways, I use both Chrome and Firefox. Chrome for personal use, Firefox for work use. Just use whatever you want.

You're right. My Firefox is filled with add-ons which is why it's super slow but even without add-ons, the browser is slow on older PCs whereas I didn't get that from Chrome.

Every time I use chrome it seems to have better thread management (I open a couple of dozen youtube tabs and firefox will hang for a little while as it sorts it all out, chrome tends to push through it) and javascript (not so useful for many things but a lot of HTML5 games and such did better in it). This would probably lend to it being considered faster from the end user perspective (an all important concept really) despite the actual resources being higher, and the endlessly growing disc space with every update being archived.

These days I am mostly using pale moon ( https://www.palemoon.org/ ) as it is firefox with a slightly older UI, mostly compatible with firefox and where firefox includes some legacy stuff for those on ancient systems or really poor systems (some of the atoms) this does for those of us with a vaguely modern/decent system.

That said what are the addons people want? Adblock is the only absolute essential for me these days and they are available with the same functionality for most things, the most annoyance chrome gives me is having to check the box to allow it to be active in porn mode. https://noscript.net/ and https://www.requestpolicy.com/ are nice, http://www.greasespot.net/ 's scripts can usually be used (not to mention I mainly only use it for youtube which for the most part I sort with http://www.videograbby.com/ ). People rave about Chrome's web dev/debug tools but firefox's inbuilt ones (and previously firebug) really do what I want. Going through the first few pages of https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/extensions/?sort=users I think I covered most things.

You're not looking at all Chrome apps listed in Task Manager, that's why it "seems" like that. Chrome runs every extension and addon as a "separate" task, resulting in many small Chrome.exe's with various different RAM allocations. Firefox doesn't, it's just all in one task. Scroll down, you're bound to find 5+ different Chrome's in your list with various different RAM allocations that will add up to being a lot more than Firefox.

For example, this is Chrome with 2 tabs open and 5 extensions:

And this is 2 Firefox windows open, 1 with 6 tabs, one with the default home page, with 4 of the same extensions:

As you can see, Chrome is using nearly 800MB of RAM, compared to two Firefox windows using a total of 400MB with more tabs and the same extensions -1.
