I bought my Wii last week and everything worked fine until last night. It gave me disk errors 3 times while playing Wii Sports, even though the disk looks fine to me, except for a fingerprint or two. This happened twice upon inserting the disk and once in the middle of a tennis match.

So do you think I should return it? I was planning on installing a WiiKey tomorrow, but would rather not if I'm going to keep running into this problem. I know from modding my Xbox that if a drive has trouble reading originals, it tends to have even more trouble reading backups, and I do plan on making backups.

What should I do: wait and see if it keeps giving me errors, or return it? Has anyone else's Wii given them trouble reading regular game discs?

Thirded. If it is struggling to read a legit disc I can only imagine what it would do with backups. Hopefully you can get a replacement quickly.

Is Nintendo fast with returns? I have no chance of returning it to Best Buy and getting a new one, as they are out of stock as always.

i think it depends with where you are how fast nintendo will get you your stuff back. my mic didn't work on my ds and from the day i received the shipping label, i mailed the ds the day i received it, to the the day i got it back was a grand total of six days. i was really impressed. though a wii could take longer.

i would just call them, they have a 1 800 number i believe and there reps are really nice and easy to work with. they will ask a few questions and then get your adress information and send you a shipping label. it should be a painless experience except for not having your wii for a while.

Fingerprints can stop a disc from reading. If your unsure though its always best to return it.

I think I might give it a couple more days and see if it gives me more trouble.

did you buy yourself a new one. your fault
it's legal to have a modchip in germany and poland so it's no problem. and by the way just call nintendo what you can do and they will tell ya that you can send it in but gotta pay when you've opened your wii

Would any of you want to put some big fingerprints on one of your games and see if it gives your Wii any trouble? Might be helpful.

Is it easier for the drive to read disks when it is oriented horizontally or vertically, or does it not matter?

systems usually read discs better vertically but if you can't read them horizontally you should RMA the system. Return your wii? you can rma it unless u were a naughty boy and put a mod chip inside there. my g/f won't lemm3 put a modchip inside the one she got.
