I highly reccomend it, if your worried about not being able to return it or trade it in, then dont because you can install a stealth version or even flash it back to your old version, plus it gives you protection from known DS trojans.

There's nothing wrong with flashing your DS, so I don't see why not.

There are risks though. Just make sure you got the DS connected to the power, stick the stick into the right hole and you're good to go

    EDIT: Grammar

That sums up the whole process. xD

anyways, theres a GBAtemp review on flashing your DS. 'Tis easy. I've done it with a billion NDS. No DSLs, tho.

DSLs aren't too different from their phat sistahs. They also like you to stick your pole into their hole.

I am sure a quick search would be easier but flashing your DS means installing a custom firmware to do various things. Personally I stand by it although the practice has fallen out of favour since the widespread introduction of DS slot carts
The most common firmware is a hacked version called flashme: it can (if you want) remove the health and safety screen, it enables you to run DS code without a passme(2)/nopass device/wifime or one of the other tweaks, it disables checking to see if the wireless packets are signed, it allows you to recover in case the firmware gets messed up (extraordinarily rare) and if you are lucky and have a newer original model DS you can gain variable backlight on it.

    although there is also
creebome (or was it creepome) (the newest one I know of, not bad either)
FWNitro (was one of the few rom dumpers, pretty good to)
On the same flashme site there is a very minimal firmware as well. (the source was updated recently and is only really of use to a few coders and the terminally curious)
A few others also occasionally do the rounds/get a design but these are the most notable.

WTF, I thought I had read somewhere that you could dump your own games with a Slot-2 flashcard and the appropriate homebrew dumping app? [IMG]

AH I see thanks. I guess maybe he shouldn't flash his DS. It really doesn't seem worth it.

I have no reason to flash my DS, because I already have a R4 which acts as a passme for my slot-2 device. There's also little reason to worry about trojans if you aren't an idiot and install every random piece of software.

Also, I am afraid to try it after one of my friends bricked his DSL while trying to install Flashme.

    Go for it maaaaaaan.

I have personally flashed 5 DS Lites and 3 Phat DSes.

I recommend using a 1.8mm flat head screw driver with electrical tape wrapped around it.
