bs it's a complete rip off of the wii and if your defending it your clearly an xbot

If it would be really "a complete rip off" they had used a similar controller as the Wiimote
wink.gif
but this is a whole new technologie they are using (Eye Toy was crap
tongue.gif
).

In any way if this works like it should this is a really really nice addition especially the new Lionhead game it´s like playing a movie with direct action and reaction from the actors.
And i have no XBox 360 but after this conference i will definatly buy one
wink.gif
it´s the most complete package and in my opionion Sony have already lost (at least they lost another exclusive, again).

Nintendo doesn´t need to beat this (they already have something like this with the wiimote
wink.gif
) but Sony needs to beat this and i think a PSP Go!, a possible price cut, GOW3 and Heavy Rain isn´t enough. What MS showed is really the future in my opinion (not completly i think that controllers will ever be needed) but this is really the whole package and possiblities.
Like i said this Lionhead game looks really promising and who knows Molyneux this game will be even more as a game.
Another thing i really like is all this Movie,Radio and TV stuff especially that if a friend already bought the movie that you can meet him and look the same movie with him.

And i would really like to know how you will try this without the camera and software

Just to put an end to the whole "____ copied _____" thing, you can't really judge until you know how the internals work.

The wiimote is NOT copying anything and is not BEING copied by anyone. It makes use of a physical device with accelerometers. It's position is calculated in 3D space by the wiimote, which takes into account the positions of the lights on the sensor bar, then figures out distance, etc from that. It then sends it to the Wii.

The Eyetoy is not tracking humans in anyway. All the eyetoy is doing is looking for some sign of movement using a camera. Where it sees movement, it knows something is happening. You can download programs that do the same kind of thing with a webcam. My laptop came with a few.

Natal is a WHOLE different ballgame. If you decide to ignore the voice activating for a second, just look at all it's sensors it's comprised of! One looks for specific features stored in memory (facial recognition, etc), one detects and tracks movement in a 3d space, and more! Not only does it see something moving, a la Eyetoy, but it tracks HOW it is moving! It can tell if it is moving closer or farther, side to side, rotating on Its side, bendidng forqrd... Everything! It's a very advanced piece of technology.

But on topic, I really think it depends on the support the Natal gets from developers. Being included in a few games definately WONT help it, unless those are AAA titles and are plentiful. I doubt it will surpass the Wii, but it will get mighty close... Look out Nintendo...

I sure hope Nintendo fears it, because that fear is what made Nintendo release the DS AND Wii.

Everything will come down to software, we still wait for that great Wii 3rd party game (the best being Resident Evil 4 made for the gamecube with fixes for a wiimote). Hopefully Microsoft will really work on this, but the main problem for Microsoft is they are focused on the "multimedia machine" adding social networks and netflix and stuff like that, and leave third parties to use this stuff. They better make a Halo compatible with thisor it would look like if they are just trying to get Nintendo.

Nintendo I think still has the upper hand with the wiimote plus since it's a 1:1 thing, while the Microsoft camera seems to do basic movement at his moment, hopefully it will allow more complex motion like fingers and face gestures, that would make it hard to beat.

I'm glad this is coming out right now, because what Microsoft wants is this console to win a console when it already lost to the Wii. Had this been shown for a new Microsoft console it would have been a whole new playground with new rules. Right now, Nintendo will finally get up from resting on their pile of money and stop with "1 game every few months because we want third parties to compete", probably will release an even better wiimote and maybe a few new things for this or their next console.

I'm more worried about Sony and their serious struggle they have, they better make some ridiculously amazing keynote tomorrow, and Hopefully Nintendo will also come back into fighting mode since it has been pretty lame this whole year.

actually it's not that complex, most consumer digital cameras have those same features, the only difference is that this will be used for video games and not easier to use point and shoot photography. The funny thing is how most technology turns into amazing stuff once you get this level of interaction.

and that kudo remark about was funny but seconds later his 1:1 recognition started glitching once tried to show the sole of his shoes:

Too early to start bragging...

You should be quiet, you're just making yourself sound bitter. I don't blame you if you are, though.

Natal is pretty amazing by the looks. I know better than to get my hopes up though

and I'll wait until it's released before judging. Remember those first Wii trailers with the dude playing red steel barrel rolling and ducking behind his couch for cover? Sigh...all we got was a 'pointer' light gun style control and waggle.

I loves me some boom blox though...that worked well with the Wii controls.

My digital camera has face recognition, but it can't recognise different individual faces. IT can't track a persons limbs motions through a 3D space either.

I'll definitely buy the natal if it turns out to be as good as it looks.

Well... so much for "the Wii is a gimmicky console". I'm surprised it hasn't been Sony who jumped on the "motion wagon" first, though.

I couldn't care less about this Project Natal. I'll still want my games to be controlled with... controllers. Yeah, flame me if you want, but I'd rather play Tetris on my GB than this Eye Toy clone.

But it did!... Heck... previous generation even. Eyetoy ? Sixaxis ? :]

And project NATAL... uh... apart from giving me a strange GLaDOS kind of feeling... won't be usable as much as they've shown on the demo. Camera only controls have its limitations. One thing that it'll do good is maybe.... shutting MS fanboys with theirs "motion control is silly" whines....

P.S - Did only me find Ubi unveiling their 3rd party camera for the wii a kick in the nuts for MS ?

Sony did jump on the motion bandwagon first. I don't blame you for forgetting though, the SIXAXIS was pretty fail.

EDIT: Damn, beaten to the punch.

From what I've seen so far, I really like Natal. I might just buy an xbox because of it

I am pinning high hope on the next generation. this generation, I guess xbox will make its best shot.

Now that I've thought about it the idea isn't as good as I thought it was at first. I can't see how much use it'll be tbh. How will you aim, move or shoot in on-rails, third person or FPS games..? And one of the advantages of the remote and nunchuck is that you have 2 options - playing games standing up and waving your arms around or sitting down playing the game with smaller motions. With Natal you won't be able to do this. It'll be great for fitness and martial arts tutorials but pretty much useless for your more traditional games.

Someone posted a video on here more than a year ago where the company who was developing this new technology was showing it off at some convention. They said they approached gaming companies and Nintendo turned it down so I would have to believe that Nintendo isn't afraid of the impact that the Natal can do. They know what they are doing. Once you get past the "oohhh and ahhhh" of it anyway, it's not really that hot to me.

This will hardly be used in any games. It's not as revolutionary as so many of you seem to think. The uses it does get will most likely be half assed and cheesy.
