Alright it worked! Thank you! How would I change one of the themes named that says "DEFAULT" ? Which is the folder I used to hold the others
I'm confused, you mean like how I labeled my Vaporwave one as Installed Default in parenthesis? That's literally just how I named the folder that holds that theme.

I really wouldn't be concerned about these themes in the new environment, they work just fine there, and there is literally no reason any update to the environments should affect them, but if it helps you sleep at night, I get it. I'm staying permanent, but also using SDCafiine for other themes.
Thanks for this! I'll install themes permanently then... They're tested with SDCaffiine and work fine.

Hey so I made a dark theme based on the Wii U Plugin System's dark mode but the wara wara doesn't have that annoying look and some other buttons are also actually dark this time instead of just being the default colours.

This is a very nice theme, though I'm not really a fan of the inverted cursor icon, anyone know how I could swap it out for the original one?

You do exactly what you asked..... You get the original cursor from the original theme and replace/overwrite the one in the modded theme with it!

I can't remember the name of the cursor file or id say it here but get switch toolbox and go thru the files till you find the cursor and replace the image inside.

Its that easy but no one will do a step by step guide for a cursor swap lol!

Hello, sorry for my ignorance, but is it possible to install a dark theme permanently ?
Yup, any theme can be installed permanently via FTP or the theme installer app someone made in this thread somewhere. Just be careful, especially the FTP route, I explain the troubles I went through initially when I did go permanent in that first post, but as long as you have a coldboot cfw you should be able to recover from any mistake that may happen when going permanent. I can vouch for CBHC and say that if things go wrong there, you aren't screwed and can recover. I've been told the same is true in Tiramisu, but can't personally vouch for that on a first hand experience.

Ok, you advice me to use the installer instead ?
I've not used the installer, so I can't personally vouch for it, but all the posts I've seen of people saying they used it, they say it worked, so I'd probably try that if I was trying to go permanent now.
Where i have to put the theme otherwise ?
That info can be found in the first post.

ORIGINAL POST:

So this can be a thing now, how exciting is that? Thanks to @CafeCentralUI and his thread here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/released-rosalina-theme-installer-for-wii-u.588203/ the information is now out there on what files need to be altered to create our own themes on the Wii U. While his thread isn't so much a tutorial as it is a guiding hand on where to look to create themes, there was enough info there for me to make a pretty cool theme for my Wii U, not only do I want to show it off, but I wanna share it so that you can download and use it too, and hopefully in time more and more themes can be added and shared in this thread, for example I may do a proper dark theme next if someone else doesn't do it themselves. I recognize that without a proper guide telling you which parts you want to edit and in what way to alter whatever parts of the Wii U menu, there probably wont be a lot of people trying this yet, but if I see enough demand, I could be the one to make a proper tutorial on what info is where (it's all scattered in so many places, that going back to recall what is where sounds like a nightmare).

Regardless, here's my first theme, I call it Vaporwave Summer:

View attachment 291962
(if you're curious about repopulating the Wara Wara Plaza, find my thread on how to do so)
View attachment 291963
Another look at the bottom to show the minor changes I made to the folder creation tiles:
View attachment 291964

Now, before I provide the download link I just want to say, that for now, you should probably only use this in SDCafiine, taking the included Men.pack and Men2.pack files and putting them in the following location:

US: sdcafiine/0005001010040100/content/Common/Package/
EU: sdcafiine/0005001010040200/content/Common/Package/
JPN: sdcafiine/0005001010040000/content/Common/Package/

Theoretically this should be able to be implemented via FTPiiU as a permanent theme, and I've had no issue overwriting the Wara Wara Plaza on a permanent level before. But I tried this and it yielded issues, issues that scared me for a moment that I may have had a brick (thankfully it wasn't and I was able to recover, but not without a few minutes of fearing I had lost everything), it could just be my FTP client on the computer, but whatever it is, I feel lucky that I was able to get back to the standard menu theme without issue. Perhaps I'll try again later, since I was able to recover I think I know what it would take to properly overwrite without failure, but I'm incredibly hesitant to do so. Point is, seriously beware if you're gonna try and make a theme permanent, SDCafiine meanwhile is risk free and works like a charm.

GOING PERMANENT EDIT: You can go permanent, but I had to kinda cheese the ftp client by hitting overwrite like 3 times before hitting skip when transferring the file for each file to properly transfer. Go permanent at your own risk, you can read in detail what I went through to make it happen. Others had no issue though so it may just be the ftp client on my PC that was the issue. I don't know. Regardless, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU DON'T HAVE CBHC INSTALLED, YOU CAN EASILY BRICK DOING THIS, BUT CBHC CAN SAVE YOU FROM THIS KIND OF BRICK (it saved me)

HOW CAN I MAKE ONE?!
I have a rough spreadsheet I've been working from that makes it clear to me what I need to do, though it's not the most thoroughly explained at this point.

I'll share it here: Men.pack and Men2.pack feature locations

And if anyone wants to take a stab at their own theme with that info, have at it. I do intend to make it a bit more clear in the future, but it should be enough info for anyone to figure out what I was doing.

Finally, I'm receiving word that others are making a tutorial for making and installing themes. That's cool, of course, as is the case for anything like this on GBATemp, always use caution following a video guide, and if something goes wrong following someone else's guide, please don't blame me, I would still recommend looking through my info here and throughout this thread for help first.
I made an updated guide! It still needs some work!:

Can these themes be loaded through the use of Tiramisu's plugin system?
So we don't permanently install them unto the WiiU, but we can still load them at cold boot.

Create a SDcafiine channel via the haxchi method, and then with the quickboot enabled with the gamepad, choose to launch SDcaffiine each time to boot up your theme, and if you created multiple SDcafiine theme "mods," launching SDcaffiine on boot will immediately pull up a theme menu essentially where you can choose what theme you'll have in that play session.

This method works great for me for now. Though it sounds like in the future, SDcaffiine will have a proper module for Aroma, so you won't even need to quick launch anything on boot if you don't like that small aspect of it all. But it may be awhile yet before those release.

I think as long as they're not corrupted it should be fine to make them permanent. It's not like you can't Make it Stock again in the Future.

Yeah, it's been like half a year with a permanent custom theme, and like 2 years of a permanent custom Wara Wara Plaza, and I feel very confident in saying that, once installed, there appears to be no risks of something suddenly going wrong because of the permanent mods. And if you have CBHC or Tiramisu, you can safely fix a bad install without issue.

I get why people would be uneasy on the prospect of modifying such files permanently, but as someone who took the risk to begin with and did mess up on the install and thought I had a permanent brick, I can say with certainty that as long as you have a coldboot cfw, you can easily restore the original menu files or properly install the custom theme if you try again. But I'm also not gonna sit here and shame anyone that still doesn't trust the whole idea of replacing any NAND files on the Wii U, it's certainly a good thing to be wary of, as changing many of those other files can lead to irreparable bricks even with a coldboot setup.

Would be cool if there was a tool to make custom Wara Wara Plaza. Personally the only thing I'd want is to replace parental controls with the TVii icon.

There is no tool, but if you follow the wara wara link in my sig, I do explain how to edit the wara wara Plaza to your liking. It's pretty easy honestly, albeit a bit time consuming depending on how much you want to edit.

Ah interesting.
So what you're doing is autobooting with Tiramisu into the Haxchi title so it loads the custom theme right before going into the main menu.
That's a good way of going about it for sure.

Although, I think I can wait it out, I will wait and see how Tiramisu and Aroma develops and when they get around to implementing SDcaffiine into it, then I'll jump into the custom theme. Thanks for the explanation!

Btw, which folder/path directory is needed for the Dark-Red theme?
