"Walmart is taking pre-orders for a box set of popular Playstation 2 action games ICO and Shadow of the Colossus for the Playstation 3 for just under $40.

While Sony has yet to announce such a bundle, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told IGN back in June that they are "looking to continue to do these HD conversions" following in the footsteps of God of War and Sly collections for the PS3.

In the case of those games, the classic PS2 titles featured updated high definition graphics."

Meh, I'm a sucker for the template, here's the formatted version if you want to copy/paste into the main post:

    Warning: Spoilers inside!

I still need to get my hands on a copy of Ico and SotC for my PS2, but they're not quite easy to come by cheap. I've heard great things about both games though.

I managed to find a new copy of SotC sitting around in a walmart a few months back. Very decent game! I haven't had the chance to play Ico and with what will hopefully be some performance improvements in SotC, this is going to be a must have for me.

Together with the Sly games, these are the PS2 games I still really want to play [IMG] I hope Sony keeps making these. They may be old games, but if they're cheap, run great in HD, include trophies and support things like 3DTV and PlayStation Move, it's great value.

Fuck 'em. I'm not supporting their refusal to provide backward compatibility on PS3 just so they can milk old games. They put it out there and quickly did away with it, likely due to some bean counter who suggested gouging Sony customers for everything they have. Shit, even Wii can do backward compatibility. No excuse. I own both these games already, and I actually might consider buying this (if it's HD) were it not for the principle of the matter. Sony's entire marketing team should be shit-canned. They're creating ill will for years to come. Doubt me? Go fool around with Home for proof.

I mostly agree with you but in this case SotC ran with a horrible frame rate on the ps2 so im hoping the ps3 vesion will run at a solid 60fps (or at least a solid 30) if it does its worth the money but alas at the same time with all the stuff we know about the ps3 thanks to grove/freedom sony are bitch ass assholes because they all ready have a fully functional ps2 emu running on your ps3 you just cant use it WTF so there are two sides to the coin.

they stopped supporting it because the PS2 compatibility required a different processor or something, and drove the production prices way up, so they took out the processor to save money

Considering those games new are both over 40 dollars each, both for the PS3 seems like a steal for 40 dollars.

    @Terminator02

I partially disagree with your assertion. Perhaps removing the PS2 processor lowered production costs somewhat, but I thought the intention was to force the consumer to buy more PS3 software, which wasn't selling well at the time. Why else would the PS3 possess backwards compatibility for the first generation, and not the second? This is to say nothing of the Linux capability they've removed in firmware updates, as opposed to hardware revisions. The PS3's vast functionality at launch is being incrementally taken away in exchange for consumer exploitation.

That having been said, I wonder what these HD versions will look like.

They removed the EE and GS2 chip because of production costs
its the reason why its $299 now and that they can actually make a profit on them now

I for one, am excited for this. Milking these games? They're generally considered amazing games by the majority. And they're improving the games and selling at a great price. If you're so upset about BC, you should have gotten a BC PS3, that's what I did. It still sucks that Sony hasn't brought PS2 back to PS3's though.

And Ico one of the most boring games ever(literally) created? You probably haven't played a lot of boring games before.

All right, that's a damn compelling argument, actually. Of course, it's a big "if." As big as Sony is, they're more quirky than Nintendo. They bring gold to a party, but they also charge you for platinum. My gripe stands, but yeah, if the games have been remastered of sorts with HD visuals and a silky framerate, then absolutely, I'll pay $40 to play through them again.

What point is that? That companies have no right to remove features from products if it means making the consoles cheaper to manufacture and can sell at a cheaper price thereby saving the consumer money? Or that you can't read (You keep saying 'if' it's in HD, when the topic clearly states these are HD remakes. Akin to the God of War and Sly Cooper bundles.)
