Due to the sheer amount of off topic banter and ridicule towards f0f, members of tri-core team, and myself it has come to my attention that this community obviously does not require exploit research or development and lacks civilized and respectful demeanor I will no longer be sharing my findings. Thank you to those intellectual and respectful individuals that were legitimately interested in this project and I do apologize that this discontinuation effects you, I simply ask you to please understand and respect my decision to discontinue my efforts in the public eye and to please continue the support of the linux tri-core team. Thank you for your time.

Glad to see someone working on this. Just read failoverfl0w blog which kinda make me sad.

Neato, I haven't used my WiiU for a LONG time. I might as well would open it up, but I would have no idea where to start to contribute..

It's not that I don't know or dare to solder, it's that I don't know how to do 'hardware hacking'.
I'm a developer, though I wouldn't know anything about ASM. :P

Good Luck, I will check this thread from time to time to see what you have to share :D. The fact that this thread is here gives me hope, I also like reading hacky things so its pretty cool too even if no progress is made :D

http://wiiubrew.org/wiki/EMMC_NANDNote: for hooking up to SD card reader the following might be needed:
  • 50K nominal (10K - 90K range) Ohm pullup between VCC and DAT3/CD for card detect (see also Application Notes 10911)

Actually that is not what the resistors for, but good eye on the WIIUbrew page. Actually it is to replace the microscopic 33 ohm resistors that were getting in my way. I have already found a solution to that issue of lock and read that does not require a resistor at all, infact everything that I have done minus the un-needed removal of components can be done without even solder. More on this later. I am currently repairing a trace pad and comparing dumps, I will post back shortly on results.

you're saying "...direct memory access and manupulation...". so can you dump the memory?

I have a method yes, unlike eMMC reading I haven't tested it yet but I do have the pinout. It should be relatively easy to access without a hyper visor during boot time.

As long as eMMC is a standard component, reading and writing it shall not be that hard. (nearly the same as on 3DS)
But I read somewhere that eMMC got special boot spaces, so maybe won't be that easy...
If you succeed, when you'll get your eMMC back up what will you do with it ? It must be crypted and untill won't get the key you will do nothing with it.
But you will be able to downgrade if you update your Wii U.
Some peoples did the same with their PS3 and mess up with commands and erase their nands at first attempt instead of dumping it.
Others made an hardware mistake and burned their nand...
Good luck, but be careful !

I have a 32GB WiiU that I wouldn't mind opening up. I have enough skills to solder a cygnos dual NAND chip into my slim Star Trek 360 (the solder points were originally meant for the phat 360's for those who don't know). That's not to mention the trial by fire repairs I have had to perform on the same 360 being it was one of my earlier projects.
