This could be an interesting philosophical question if you think about it.
Does wanking to porn count as cheating? You're not actually having sex with others, but you are getting off to people other than your significant other, and I can see them disliking the thought.

Does that mean if you think about someone else as the deed is happening that you are cheating?

Anyway while it would make no practical difference any would be girlfriend that tried to enact such a rule would no longer be my girlfriend on principle alone the instant such a thing was uttered -- it speaks to a far too controlling nature for my taste. Fair enough for a while they are there or during, or if you have an actual problem diagnosed by a proper psychiatrist, but outright is right out, and it would be a principle I encourage others to adopt.

I think that “too controlling” is an attribute formed by a cluster of behaviours, not just one. Does he/she let you spend time with friends of the opposite gender? Does he/she check your phone suspiciously every evening? Does he/she control your recreational activities?

Each one of the above points suggests that someone is too controlling but there can also be logical reasons to be suspicious. Is your friend of the opposite gender your ex? Do you have a history of being unfaithful? Are you attending pickup artist seminars and going to nightclubs?

My girlfriend tolerates most of my dirty jokes but draws the line where the level of stupidity reaches that of using a certain household appliance to pleasure yourself. I don’t think that counts as too controlling.

Exactly what is and is not cheating is a matter of perspective. I personally think that watching porn is cheating but the right hand and imagination is not.

It is certainly the greater patterns I would be concerned with and the basis for the actions taken -- where there is smoke there is fire and all that. Other things you describe there are other things I would be on the lookout for, not for myself as I would like to believe I would have picked better, but for friends.

Anyway the imagination thing was more of a joke but I will play. Why did you come to that conclusion? Historically the problems with stepping outside bonds would be about preventing disease and ensuring any children are from the people in question, and have some chance of enough funds to raise them. Assuming you wash your hands then none of that is a problem here.
In such discussions on the morality of pornographical materials some like to contemplate other things like altered expectations or standards, but if you are allowed imagination and you did not feel the need to ponder what goes while you are unattached.

Why draw a distinction between imagination and audio/visual stimuli? They are almost the same concept if you really think about it, unless you are imagining your significant other. But then again, you could make a porn with your S/O too.

Well, the thing with right hand (i use left hand personally) and imagination is that if your significant other surprise you doing it
You can easily say "I was thinking about you"
But if it surprises you watching porn, you cant really say that...

Well that's a good point lol. That situation depends on how they feel about porn though, some may throw a fit, others may want to help you finish if you know what I mean.

Hey if you can zone out and imagine someone else while doing the deed you can surely zone out and do the same with porn.

I agree with what you say about the medical and economic factors.

You do raise a good point about morality. I've always considered porn to be one step above your imagination, probably because of what any (imaginary) observer could see. Imagine two different situations and predict their outcomes.

1. She walks in on me laying on the bed masturbating
2. She walks in on me sitting on a chair watching porn on my laptop while masturbating

EDIT: Another reason is sexual fantasies come to your mind whether you like it or not. It's something you have less control over. Turning on the computer and watching porn is something you have more control over.

The Greek dub of Toy Story's You've got a friend in me is still a classic even among boomers who've never watched the movie, mostly because it was sung by a famous beloved Greek singer

Also his choice was quite interesting since his songs are anything but family-friendly
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
If anything, some of his songs were so controversial that he got troubles with the law regarding "blasphemy laws" in Greece.
