    Hello PSP users.

Asking this question on behalf of my brother who broke his psp phat's screen. When he sends it off to be repaired will the custom firmware on it cause him problems with sony?

You might want to get rid of the CFW and put the official firmare back on....before you send it in..

That's kinda hard to do with a broken screen.

Just put in a Pandora and choose the first option.

I would just replace the screen myself (I've done it before). It's not that hard.

Not everyone wants to pay for a screen, then do the modding itself. You guys need to think outside of yourselves.

Ahhh yes, very true. But it's better than risking it not getting repaired at all, or than getting it back with a new unhacked FW, or getting a refurbished one where all the buttons stick.

with pandora i think its impossible to get an unhackable firmware as it is service mode and it re-flashes the entire firmware chip

    A Pandora gives the option to either;
    Install official firmware,
    Install custom firmware or
Flash nand with nand-dump.bin or something similar

ok ill state some facts to help replies.

    > The screen has zero visibility
    > When we got the custom firmware we sent it to ozmodchips to do it which means if we get rid of it we can't put it back on without paying again.
    > We don't have a pandoras battery and if we can't see the screen how would we use it anyway?

    any more help is appreciated

You can still change the firmware, you would make the magic memory stick (you need an adapter for the computer since the screen doesnt work, unless you can get the psp into usb mode by trial and error). Once you have the MMS ready, you just put the pandora's battery in, and press the button which updates the firmware you are putting on (in this case, the official one, I forget what the button is, someone else can clarify). You will then see the little light on the left side of your psp flashing, and when it's done flashing your firmware should be changed. Obviously you would need to buy a pandora battery (or make one yourself), but i think it's worth it. Or replace the screen like some folks said, it does sound really easy. Maybe you can find someone locally who can do it for you? I doubt they would care about your custom firmware. It does worry me that Sony might check the firmware and change it or not honor the repair, know what I mean?

Wait I may sound like a n00b here but if we sent it for repair without the memory stick will they still be able to detect the firmware? They probably can but I thought I would ask just in case.

Whatever happens, if you send it to Sony to get fixed, you will get OFW back.

If you send in a CFW PSP they will just put OFW on. They won't refuse to fix the screen because of CFW.

Are you positive Warm? Doesn't it say that if you alter the PSP in any unauthorized way, you void the warranty? I hope you're right, but I would would be hesitant to send it in to them...
