We've finally got more details on the new SEGA Ages version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Previously revealed to have Sonic Mania's Drop Dash ability and Knuckles as a playable character, Sega has provided the launch date for the western release, along with its price. On February 20th, Sonic 2, alongside Puyo Puyo 2 will be available on the Nintendo Switch eShop, for $7.99 respectively. Just like the Nintendo 3DS editions of classic Sonic games, the SEGA Ages port will be handled by M2.

We need the mobile version of Sonic 1,2 and CD on modern consoles
(i know Sonic CD released on the 360 so you can play it on the XBOXONE, but come on, PS4 and Switch users exist)
Still, the Switch version of Sonic 1 was pretty good.
Won't be getting Puyo Puyo 2 tho.
    Already have Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Glad M2 is handling these and not some other inept emulator developer.

M2 has proven to be quite the great Sega porter with all the work they put into 3DS and now the Switch. A bravo from me, makes me wish I had a Switch

Nothing against M2's emulation work, since they usually do a phenomenal job at it, but it would be nice if SEGA would port the RetroEngine version of Sonic 2 instead.

That's the mobile Taxman version. With all sorts of nice additions, from widescreen, to better visuals, etc.

It's truly the best version IMO. If you ever played the Sonic CD port on console/PC, it's similar in the regard that it modernizes the game to just look and feel better than the original did. Tragically, it's only on iOS/Android. No idea why they keep shuffling M2 out to keep making these ports, which while they're well done, makes no sense, considering the Taxman ones are 10/10 way better.

I don't know, probably because Sega is cheap.

So puyo puyo 2 is not translated? Not to mention that the snes version of the game is on the snes online app? Why do they think is not a problem to have near identical games on the same system multiple times?

I 100% agree. I have all three games on my iPhone X and they all take up the entire screen and look amazing! It's a shame the Sonic 3 & Knuckles port never went past the tech demo phase.

I agree. The retroengine Sonic ports are far superior to emulation. If Sega wants to see $7.99 from me for these games that's what needs to happen. Until then I will play Sonic CD on PC, the mobile Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 on my Android TV box, and Sonic 3 on PC via Angel Island Revisited. No exceptions, I'm spoiled by 16:9.

It never was translated officially, at this point in time I think they didn't pay it much attention because unless you do care about the cutscenes on versions that have them, the whole story is extremely straightforward and there's nothing that can't be ignored without trial and error when it comes to navigating through menus.
Remember that to get the SNES Online version you need to do the whole online subscription thing. Sega might want people not needing it strictly to play one of the most iconic Puyo Puyo games (specially considering that you DO NOT need the online subscription to play).
I got this video linked to me through discord a couple weeks ago when sega ages pp2 released in Japan, comparing the 2 versions that you can purchase on Switch. Both versions have their ups and downs overall, which in the end concludes that both are good whichever you choose (if not both), however I wonder if anything changed with the worldwide release:
