the problem is not 2.5". the problem is you need one with a height of 9.5mm or less. the max hdd I've seen with that is 2TBs. ssd can go all the way to 8TBs with the ps4.

You can stick 4 or 5TB 2.5" drives into your PS4, but since they're taller, you have to perform some modifications to your internal drive cage:

Definitely not for everyone, but you can also use a dremel tool with a zip disc to cut the top of the housing and HDD cage. This way the HDD cage can be used to secure the HDD in place, with proper alignment and clearance between the bottom of the HDD and the surface. Just make sure to either remove the top plate fully before making any cuts to avoid getting metal debris or shavings inside the console. Alternatively, I suppose you could tape everything up really well when making the necessary cuts.
