Ok so I was walking over to put my sd card into my wii once again. I bent over and pushed it and and pushed the power button. At that point i realized it was in the optical drive and the drive sucked it in. Now i can't get it out! How would I go about rescuing my poor sd card from this peril?

yep also tried shaking it and seeing if i could catch something with a paper clip. Nothing [IMG] What do I need to properly open up the wii and is it possible to open up the disc drive once I'm inside to get the card out?

Taking your Wii apart should allow you to at least be able to see it and access your situation.

    Edit:
As long as you have a triwing screwdriver, you should be able to get inside. It has been a few years since I have opened up my Wii console, but I was able to see whatever game was inside the disc drive. My guess is you will be able to fish it out once you have taken it apart that far. You don't really have any other options. Good luck.

    that's just awesome! [IMG]

anyway you can easily take the front plate off where the drive is than you should be able to reach in with a thin pare of tweezers and yank it out. you don't have to dismantle the whole wii.

I had the exact same thing. I was drunk and wanted to watch a movie, so I inserted my SD card in de disk slot by accident. [IMG]
Anyway, I opened up my Wii, and I could peel it out. I noticed you can not get it out without disassembling the complete drive. But you can open up your Wii, and then manually 'slide' it out via the disk slot.
    Good luck lol.

Hahaha, I received a Wii some months ago with a DS game card in the Optical Drive [IMG]

The only secure way to do this is to open the Wii and use a pair of tweezers.

well I got it out. Me and my dad went and got a triwing screwdriver from a hardware store and opened up the wii. We had to take the metal plate off the drive to get to the sd card. Although, we've broken the drive in the process because it won't read discs anymore. Either something got fucked up from lifting up the metal plate on the drive or from us trying to fish it out with a paperclip the day before [IMG] anywho looks like i'm going to stick to usb loading from now on.

How exactly did you fuck it up, they're pretty much idiot proof.
I've taken MANY drives apart and NEVER been able to get one to stop working.

Have you just left a ribbon unplugged or something. Take it back apart and fix it this instant! Don't give up on it just like that, all the have in them is a board, a laser, and 3 motors.

Take it apart taking pictures as you go, post em back and we'll get to the root of your problem.

Watch a movie while being drunk? That's like drunk teens going to school. Double fail.

Drunk teens going to school is a fail? That's probably the best thing ever since the invention of porn. [IMG]

Not only are you a douche, but your response doesn't even work with my question; my question was specifically was how to save the SD card not how to protect it from damage, asshole.

Your only bet is to talk it apart! I did the same thing once, but after that your Wii is voided. Nintendo will not repair it for any reason even if you pay them.

Yeah, I was doing some development on my wii and had to remove and reinsert my SD card many, many times to test different variations in code. My wii is in a different room on the floor sideways, I wasn't going to pick it up or get down on my knees to put in my sd card.

You're in the Netherlands -- that's a totally different case. Where I live, drunk teens are just stupid kids who are too scared to go home and face their parents. That reminds me: I got to move to Europe once I finish college... [IMG]
