I'd suggest using a pair of locking vice grips/ pliers, and the screwdriver together. Lock on to the screwdriver with the pliers, and keep pressure down on the screwdriver as you attempt to turn them lose. Kinda like this:

I mean, the screwdriver I used (and the smallest I could find at home) seemed to be slightly bigger that the screws
Having the right size screwdriver makes all the difference, you'll just strip the screws if you keep trying with the wrong size. It shouldn't cam out easily.
In the instructions it says to use #0, I'm guessing that's the correct one as #000 is really tiny. I've never used the #000 bit in my iFixit kit, the smallest the Switch screws go is #00, and I don't remember the 3DS battery cover screws being smaller than that.

Get a jeweller's screwdriver set. They're dirt cheap, all DIY stores should have them.
The iFixit kit has way more stuff, to be sure, and can open a lot more things than a jeweller's screwdriver kit, but for just small size Philips and flathead screws, a jeweller's kit will do the job fine.

I don't have my own purchasing power, and I don't want to ask my parents for one either because I don't like acting like that.
You "don't want to" is not the same thing as you can't. Suck it up and ask, or deal with not being able to open the battery cover. There's no guarantee you'd be able to unscrew it, but a set of small screwdrivers is a useful thing to have around the house anyway, not just for your sake but for anybody in the house.

If the screw is really stuck the only real option is drilling it out but that should be the last resort.

The battery cover is the least problematic thing since the end user is supposed to be able to open it.
Fun starts with the inner (JIS-)screws, which are ridiculously tight on some(!) units and strip by just looking at them from the wrong angle. No, "just use the correct bit" does not guarantee this works.
On the plus side O3DSXL seem to be easier with the inner screws than the new models.

In any case there is no way around getting some good screwdrivers. Be warned that upper screen assembly is a nightmare. If you're not used to dealing with finicky stuff there is a high chance to ruin things. For reference: It took me five hours with my shaking hands.

Good luck and have fun!
