Does anyone have a recommendation for a screen protector? Looking to get one because the touch screen already seems to have small scratches (not sure if they're really scratches or not.. ) and the other screen has fingerprints (damn it.. why is it whenever I lend my DSL to someone they actually go and TOUCH the screens?! Both of them!!)

I've heard Hori ones are good.. but I can't find a retailer that carries them. Don't want to buy from overseas because I'm wary of tax/duties/brokerage fees at the border (I was charged nearly $30 - including a $20 bull$hit "brokerage fee" - on an $80 order last time I ordered anything overseas.. fcuk you, Purolator!).

    So, a couple of questions:
    1) Are Hori protectors really that good? Or are all of them more or less the same?
    2) Anywhere in Canada that's good to order these (particularily hope for low shipping cost.. paying $10 or so shipping for express shipping would be absurd)?
    3) If I did order from say, play-asia.com, would I get charged taxes/duties/brokerage?

    Thanks.

    1) yes, Hori is really the best.
    2) http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4871610?s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG they are an official retailer of Hori USA ... I think they have international ordering ...
    3) that's hard to say [IMG] it depends on luck [IMG] ... but I doubt you will get additional taxes from a mere screen protector though [IMG].

Hori is the best! Just make sure you don't get it from eGay.

Get it from PlayAsia. The one I got looks different than that one.

I'm more worried about the brokerage charge, really.. that's such a scam, IMO.. esp. since I didn't get the bill until weeks later..

Okay first of all, you guys should read up on WHAT BROKERAGE FEES ARE AND CUSTOMS POLICIES.

Here is what you should know

    1) YOU ONLY GET CHARGED brokerage fees if you use a courier service! Especially UPS because they are filling out forms for you to get your package across the border. If you use regular mail, like Play-Asia does (it costs like $1~ USD and comes in about a week), NO BROKERAGE FEES!! You DON'T get charged brokerage fees for just anything you import to Canada.

    2) YOU ONLY GET CHARGED CUSTOM FEES if it's OVER $20 CAD merchandise (or I believe $200 if it's marked as a gift). Your purchase of Hori screen covers is under $10 CAD so... say it with me... no custom fees!

    3) Play Asia ships it via regular mail. It's under $20 CAD.
THUS, no extra fees! Besides, it comes in a flat, regular sized envelope. It's not like they are shipping you a box or oversized envelope. They are just screen protectors!

Comprendre? Don't be scared of buying stuff online. As long as you find out HOW they ship and if a place is willing to mark it as a low valued item (if it's over $20 CAD), then you're fine.

And about screen protectors, this question has been asked 10928029382098 times here. Do a search and you'll find your appropriate answers.

I used the InvisibleShield instead of hori. They are amazing, only $15, no shipping charges, and ship from the States. http://www.shieldzone.com/ They have protectors for a lot of other stuff, including ipods. They are reusable, though a little tough to figure out how to put on. (Tip, use lots of the screen applicator solution). I recommend trying to find as dust-free a room as possible when applying the protector. I literally can't scratch the thing, and if I do, there is a lifetime replacement policy. You also can't tell it's on.

I got my Horis from Hong Kong at around $8 CAD including shipping so customs didn't give a crap. Took 15 days to arrive though. I am happy with them but wish they were easier to remove.

    My favorite are these...

Brando Workshop Ultra Clear Protector Plus

Scroll down PDA list towards bottom to find DSL protector.

I've bought three of these and they absolutely rock (one for PDA and two for DSLs). They're a perfect fit too for the DSL's screen (I mean perfect - not a single mm to spare)... I think with shipping etc the DSL protectors are $15.00 USD. I've never been hit with custom fees cause they are sent in an envelope via regular mail. Vancouver, Canada here and it usually takes about a week or so to get it.

    Personally I love 'em!

Here's a review of their PocketPC ones (same thing only dif size)

Brando Workshop Ultra Clear Protector Plus Screen Protector - Gadgeeer Review

    Hope that helps!

Yeah, I bought Hori ones last week. In the end I had to throw them away because even after cleaning the screen VERYYYY well, there were 3 small dust specks...

Actually, Canada Post automatically applies a $5.00 processing fee ($8.00 for Priority Post) for each package to clear Canada Customs if it's dutied/taxed. Canada post is pretty lax tho sometimes - I get high value stuff shipped to me with no duty/tax and other times low value stuff gets hit... Under 20 you're pretty much safe though...

That's true, you can get charged the $5 processing fee by Canada Post and then duty which can really add up. Still, it's nothing compared to UPS, one time they tried to charge me $100 brokerage fee on a used palm pilot that only cost $150 to begin with. This is why I hate UPS. Another time they charged me $20 to accept $50 worth of t-shirts!

That's insane. I know UPS totally blows... I would never have something shpped to me from the states through them again. If I order through the states, I make sure they send USPS or I don't get it... Canada post once opened a package on me of two DVDs that were sent to me by Paramount. They then assed them as 40 bucks each value (!?!) and dinged me for duty/tax based on that... The thing was... the DVDs were FREE from Paramount cause I bought 7 others in some deal they had... So I wrote Customs Canada a letter and they mailed me back a full refund, which was very cool. In fact, I've mailed 'em three times so far, refuting the charges of this and that and asking for a refund and every time I've gotten a refund cheque in the mail. On the back of the slip they give you when you pay duty/tax there are instruction on how to refute it.

You can't fight UPS though they lick monkey balls. Fedex is just as bad... Stay away from both!

Get it mailed USPS or anything else but a courier... Although, I never got dinged when I bought my G6 Lite sent through DHL and I never got dinged when my M3 Lite came through DHL... So maybe they are safe?

I just bought a new Guitar controller for Guitar Hero ($30.00 USD) and it arrived the other day with no tax/duty iether... I guess you never know for sure with Canada Post.

Edit: I have an invisible shield on my iPod Video 60 GB and I love it... AWESOME protector... I also have a couple Best Skin Ever iPod 60GB protectors too... They're both really the same now, but BSE is cheaper with no lifetime warranty. I'm not sure I would put one on my DSL just cause of the water/solution application and all of the openings on the DSL... I'm also not sure how good the "orange peel" look/texture of the IS/BSE would look on the DSL.

Try the New Pelicans, they work great. I had the old one on my DS Phat for so long, like ever since launch till about May, and when I took em off no sticky residue, though my only complaint about them is they weren't crystal clear. Now the New Pelicans fix this, they're great, no resistance, feels like the real touch screen. If you get one for a DS Phat, they don't fit that well, gotta slide it under the case a bit to get it to fit, that was another thing they did, they enlarged the screen protector, it's on my DS Lite right now, and theres no part of the screen that's exposed except for the corners.

One time I ordered 5 cd singles on ebay, they were 99 cents each. Customs opened it up, decided they were worth $10 each because the stupid seller didn't write a value on the package, and so I got charged something like $15 duty. Argh! I also don't order anything unless it's sent by USPS or from within Canada, too bad Canada has almost no good online stores. I just ordered $8 worth of DVDs from Korea and they let me specify what value they will write, and whether they will mark it as a gift. That was cool. Hope they come through, I asked them to write the real value but mark it as a gift.
