Hacking Savegame from original cart

Well, I'm trying to backup a savegame from Yoshi's Island (original cart) with EZ-Client (I've got an EZ-II PS).
The problem is the save is not working.
I've done this before with other carts succesfully.
Can it be because of the save type (eeprom)?
Any ideas?

You can not use EZ stuff to rip EEPROM saves unfortunately, your only real hope is one of those very rare gamesharks that can do it (if you go this route make sure to get the model that connects to the PC as opposed to the standalone one).
