Satoru Iwata: History, Impact, and Legacy

On July 11th, 2015, the president and CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, passed away at the age of 55. But what was it that this man accomplished to be known and loved throughout the gaming world? Why should we care that he is gone? The following video explains who Iwata was and what he left behind for us.

On a separate note, this is my first piece as part of the GBAtemp team so expect to see more news and reviews in video format by me in the future. Thanks for sticking around. :)

I hope you are open to criticism.

In your video of two and half minutes (I'm not counting the time you spent thanking everyone like some actor winning an Oscar) you explain "everything" Iwata did. Your "everything" is literally what I read over and over from various posts and news in forums and websites when he died. You didn't say anything new. People knew all this stuff already because they read the posts and articles when Iwata died.

Also, that Jotho/Kanto map you used isn't from Gold and Silver, it's from the remakes you ditched literally seconds earlier. And yes, I did expect you to put images of the games you mentioned. That's just lazy. Those aren't the only parts of the video that scream "lazy". It's very clear that you are reading a piece of paper and you didn't redo the parts where you didn't read too good. I could've opened Microsoft Sam, pasted Chavosaur's post and obtain the same results.

IMO, if you are going to make a project like this, make sure it's at least longer than a couple of minutes. I expected something epic from your title. Was disappointed.

Yup, that's actually because I made this video the day after he died as a way to basically show Thug and the other writers my ability. For a variety of reasons it ended up being delayed this long. Next time the news will be more recent! This is more of a test piece I suppose.

That said, I really do appreciate the critique, no joke. As I'm sure you understand, it's a bit harder to make a video piece than it is to make a written one so I'm still trying to get into the swing of things and find the sweet spot. I'll try not to disappoint you in the future.

Can't help but say that IGN did a far better job at making a tribute for Satoru Iwata than the OP, but then again, IGN's a professional gaming/entertainment company so it's no surprise such thing has happened.

Eh? Why even bother making that sort of comparison? Media conglomerate x one guy in a niche community. Makes sense.

Glad to see that you guys are liking what Ericzander has the potential to do. And don't worry - that was our test run for Eric to show us what he is capable of doing in a time constraint. He created this video very quickly after Iwata's passing, and the only reason you guys are just seeing it a day or so ago is due circumstances beyond control. Rest assured - all of the criticism is being noted and we're working on fine tuning all of this. Its a first for us to be even considering using media, so please be patient as we take those steps in the right direction.

That's one of the issues I have with ecchi stuff recently, it focuses too much on the sexual aspect, not the comedy effect.

The manga had it's fair share.

ecchi anime focusing too much at fanservice was always a thing
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
Rumiko Takahashi got so much fan email about the character that she brought her back in the manga, it was going to be completely different originally (with the alien of the week type).
