Hello, my Wii (RVL-CPU-20) has stopped working suddenly. It used to work just fine a month ago but today when i went to go turn it on it was just a black screen with no wiimote syncing. The wiimote cannot turn on the wii either. I have tried replacing the bluetooth module from an RVL-CPU-40 that works except the disc drive (bad laser) with no luck. Next I will try to replace the wifi module but before i do that i would like to know if the parts from an RVL-CPU-40 are compatible with an RVL-CPU-20.

AFAIK bluetooth and wifi module are all interchangeble.
Since it is a pre 40/60 board, high chance it is affected by overheating issue. Is wiiconnect24 enabled on standby? i.e. does the lamp turn yellow or red when you power it off?

That is not a good habit for especially wii with pre 40/60 boards. I have noticed similar reports on other forums.

For now maybe you need U4 (U9?) placed, soldering needed.
Or just buy a black one or any RVL-101 for 40/60 boards.

i might not need to though because from what i have seen with those chips going bad you can turn it on with wiimote

So I have an extra broken Wii (RVL-CPU-20) and power led turns on, and off by holding it down.
No video. Just tried a few spare bluetooth modules but no dice.

What is the U4 / LDO chip and is this my problem?

It is from what I have heard something that regulates the voltage and when it fails it either does not produce enough voltage or no voltage at all, the only way to find out is to test it with a multimeter, which another post tells you how, https://gbatemp.net/threads/transfer-broken-wii-content-to-another-wii.604111/

I did end up testing with a multimeter, and after testing it seemed like the proper voltages were present, and it displayed video again :)
not sure if using the multimeter "jump-started" it or not, but it works now so I'm happy
Is this specifically a RVL-CPU-20 problem?

Most likely, it seems like they are killing their ldo chip from the heat generation of those models
