Which is Fair Play considering the fact that the U.S invades countries instead for the exact same purpose.

Moving on though, Russia, or any other western OR eastern country that actually matters is in no condition for war as of today. My girlfriend's grandfather once spoke very wise words - "5 million soldiers require 5 million rifles and 5 million meals a day". We are currently in a great economical depression and none of us can actually afford global warfare if we don't want to end up bankrupt like SOME OTHER BIG ASS COUNTRY WHICH CONSTANTLY WAGES WARS WHERE THEY'RE NOT WELCOME did recently.

EDIT: Now that I think about it more thoroughly, Russia itself is a natural resources superpower due to its the sheer size - they lay on layers upon layers of both oil and gas, even if the world would end tomorrow morning and they happened to be the last ones standing, their resources would suffice. It's countries like the United Kingdom or other "secluded and depleted of resources" areas that should be concerned.

Actually, knowing your government you'll go to war with even the slightest excuse regardless of possible profits.

The wars for oil ended up rising the oil prices instead of lowering them because rebels didn't turn out to be idiots like your officials predicted and blew up the refineries they so eagerly wanted to possess.
