The ‘NGP’. The ‘Next Generation Portable’. The ‘PSP2’.
These are all synonyms for the successor of the PSP. But what is the final name?

The NGP was officially announced in January of this year. The release of the PSP successor itself wasn’t a big shock. We all knew it had to come eventually. The real shock was the specs of the device, which was essentially credited as a PS3 Portable with similar graphics.
After the announcement it became a tad silent around the NGP as Sony is waiting on the E3 to announce more.

But today we received some new, and exclusive, information from an anonymous source.
The official name of the NGP!
Rumor has it that the new Sony handheld will bear the name PS Vita. Vita is Latin/Italian for ‘life’.
Does Sony hope to bring life back into their stock? Do they want to rejuvenate the PSP? Revitalize your needs for portable gaming?

Our source tells us that this will be the definite and final name of the new system Sony will bring out at the end of 2011.
Sony is expected to give further announcements on the E3 next week.

In my opinion this is a very surprising name. Mainly because it will be the first innovative name Sony is using for any of its consoles/handhelds.

P.S. Please remember to take this with a grain of salt and this is NOT fake information that we have made up. The source cannot be proven reliable, of course, but this site was not set up with the intention of getting hits with bogus information. Other sites may do this but to be honest, I think that’s pretty sad. To reiterate, please don’t take this as fact and look to E3 for the final name; hopefully we’ll have it right! The above is of course still speculation and rumours and we have no confirmation as of yet but we will have some soon.[/p]

    So, PlayStation Vita. Thoughts?

Could very well be true. Hopefully E3 gives us more info about all these questions concerning the NGP.

If true, we can all call it PSV, so it works out okay.
    I was expecting PSP2 since, PS1, PS2, PS3.

    PS Pita Bread.

Whatever it's called, as long as it's good and doesn't have any features cut out on purpose, I'm fine... *glares at Sony*

That would be fine by me too! The advert could have sexy ladies in bikinis dancing around PSV's.

The new interface is being called the live or life area. So the name kinda fits with that.

Vita might remind people of "Vista", and lord knows everybody hates Vista for one reason or another (or often no actual reason), so I don't think they'd do that.

Unless they really have no fucking clue about their consumer base at all.

Except the song is "Livin' la viDa loca".
I think everyone is failing to realise this is obviously a subtle wink towards Square Enix who simply loves to use latin in their games. See Dissidia, Dissidia 012 Prologus, Fabula Nova Crystallis, etc.

How the fuck do you put those two words in the same sentence and still have it make sense?

Also, the most obvious example is Duodecim, since even someone who knows no latin would still be able to figure out what that means.

    ...PS... Vita?

I was hoping for a more kickass name, or at least a name with reference to the Playstation Portable. You know, the line of products they initially produced?

    Lets see...

PSP, PSP Slim, PSPgo, PS Vita

    Wtf?

    It's the Dissidia prequel/sequel.

It's called "Dissidia Final Fantasy 012 Duodecim". Duo usually means 2, deci usually means 10. 2+10 = 12. It's 012. That's just from my really bad understanding of languages that aren't English.

EDIT: For Vita, it's like VITAlity. Life, energy, all that good stuff.
