    Here we go with another set of rumors about a PSP2. It sounds unlikely but its possible. Everything started the other day with Imagination announcing via press release that they've signed a deal with a new partner and that they're cooking up a new graphics chip, the SGX55x graphics core. Many sources believe that it may be Sony. Some specs:

    CURRENT PSP GPU Specifications:

    * 166 mhz core speed
    * 2 MB VRAM
    * Up to 33 million polygons per second
    * 664 million pixels per second (fill rate)

    CURRENT PowerVR SGX530 Specifications:

    * 200 MHz Core Speed
    * 13.5 million polygons per second
    * 1200 million pixels per second (fill rate)
    * DirectX 9 Shader Model 3 support / OpenGL 2.0
    * 128-bit color precision
    * Multi-sampling and anti-aliasing

    Imagination have also shown demo pictures of what to expect in the graphics chip in the source.

    I really doubt any new PSP in the next 10 years can have PS2 emulation. It's still slow on even the best PCs. The old PS3s could only do it because they had a PS2 inside, unless they added that to the PSP, raising the price a lot, it would never have PS2 emulation.

    r u joking?

    and a psp2 isn't gonna be out for a while. sony stressed that they wanna keep there systems on a ten year cycle, so psp has a few yrs to go. and it's unnecessary to update it, the hardware is powerful enough. they just need to make more fuckin games for it.

    Hey, the PS2 is still going, and the PSXs' production stopped in 2006. Just because it's a "Ten Year Lifecycle", doesn't mean that the predecessors stops being produced.

    'When' it will come out, you can bet it will have a touch screen.
    This much I know. And probably some motion sensors a la iPhone as well.
    But for the time being I agree, the hardware is definitely up to the task and should offer anything portable games can offer.
    I mean while I'm happy with the DS, the current PSP looks already like nextgen next to it !
    So yeah they should concentrate on making more, better games.
    My only grief is the analog stick on it, I really don't like the feel of it.

    I think PS2 emulation is possible in a 'PSP2' console. Like someone said, the graphics of the PSP are somewhere between PSX and PS2 graphics... some games are more like PSX, while others could possibly classify as PS2. (Look at God of War, that has pretty damn good graphics for a handheld. And really, have you SEEN Crisis Core's cutscenes?)

    What does playing back video have to do with graphics quality?
