Looks like Ouya may be in a tough spot right now. According to a leaked email written in early April, Ouya, Inc. is up for sale due to falling into debt with one of their investors. The email stated that they are looking for a purchase by the end of this month (a few days).
If you think this email is fake, Ouya has denied to comment about it (which can be for and against this depending on the way you take it).
What do you think? Is this a clever hoax or the end of Ouya?!

LOL Of course I get tagged :P I saw the writing for a while. I still support OUYA Inc. and they have some cool people working over there but between lack of advertising (and it's a lot easier to get the word out online) and the finicky community, it was and is damned hard to get progress done. Initially, I wanted to see the hardware last for 4 years minimum yet there were not enough developers pushing the hardware or optimizing. Right now the hardware feels dated and the lack of proper USB support kills it. To add fire to this flame, we had a few instances of OUYA 2 mentions but no major announcement. Today, I'm seriously considering getting a HP Stream Mini and dual booting Android and Windows 8. On top of that I'll probably transfer all of my OUYA stuff to the Android side of the dual boot.

I want to see OUYA survive and I do know that they are working on a major game release. They still have time to change it around but if they want to do that, they will need to work hard, damned hard. One interesting option would be for Google to buy them off and update every OUYA console with Android TV. I can also see Xiaomi buying them out for the sake of having a known product in the US market. Either way, it's a sad day.

I wish OUYA was more successful, but its just not worth it. I have the same functions with my Tab3 (not to TV but still works with bluetooth controller), my cheap chinese tablet with HDMI out, my PC has Bluestacks. Android games should stay mobile.

I hope something better comes out of this, I really do want this market to thrive but it's just not there yet.

It's funny how people say that Android games should stay mobile yet they get excited over the prospect of playing PSP, DS and 3DS games via emulators in non mobile fashion. The lines between a "mobile" and a "couch" experience is blurred and developers should be able to make games as they see fit. Having Android on TV just gives developers opportunities to reach the TV audience in ways they were not able to before OUYA.

I haven't heard of a killer app for it, nothing has made me say - Oh man, I want to play this on my TV. If you can cite examples, please do, I'm always up to play some great games!

My last comment wasn't solely about OUYA native games as much as it was about people's thoughts on Android games in general. I can name plenty of Android games that would fit the bill for couch gaming. I personally treat my OUYA as a medium for the few games I feel are couch ready whether they be OUYA native, from the Amazon App Store or from Google Play. I have all three stores on my console and pick/choose what's best for the experience.

    Somewhere, over there!
Much like any other game out there. It's preference. There are no android/mobile games that I personally find suitable for couch gaming. When I think of couch gaming.. I think of playing with my brothers or fiance. Not a mobile game designed for a set top android console.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am not really shocked. It's not a bad system, just not one that was able to move very far. It didn't get deals with most major retailers (like Wal*Mart) nor was it able to get any offline advertisements. If it could have only scored some marketing spots on some actual store selves, it might have done better.

Wellington2k: have you even checked your own source? If so, you would have noticed it states 'reportedly' 2 times (one of which in the title...which somehow got lost in your copy-paste job), an 'allegedly' and an 'apparently'. That ouya declined to comment on it doesn't make it true*. All in all, there is a word for this: it's called a RUMOUR.

*I can fabricate all the lies I want about politicians. It rarely emits them a reaction, and that's for a very good reason: that way they'll implicitly validate the situation, leading more people to believe a word of it than otherwise.

*Looks in pocket*... I got $24.35 and a piece of lint, thats about 73% of their equity. Anyone wanna chip in a piece of bubble gum and we can make OUYA the official console of Gbatemp.

I'd think Ouya inc would need to pay GBAtemp to stain its name by doing that. We'd be better off naming the virtual boy the official console of gbatemp.

I do not think it was "android should stay mobile" but more that the ouya peeps were talking a lot of nonsense. Most prominently during the earlier days when they were going on about it always being in date, despite launching with outdated hardware back when that really mattered for these sorts of devices.

What were they expecting, their whole platform was based on the idea that everything should be free.
A bit hard to make money off that.

It was never about everything being free. It was about free demos. That was one of the things I really wished people would get through their minds. It fucking annoyed me that developers bitched and moaned that OUYA wanted them to make fucking demos of their damn games. OUYA should have worded it better but that was all it boiled down to. It sucks that developers these days feel that they should be able to rob gamers out of their money and not allow the gamer to get a god idea of what they are buying before making the purchase.

The kickstarter said that all games should either be free or have a free demo.
Their entire marketing was based off of games being free.

You know what sucks even more? Us players rarely going from 'playing a demo' to 'buying the full game based on said demo' (source).
I'm not familiar enough to know to which degree "ouya should have worded it better" is an understatement, but I really didn't get the impression that developers were getting an opportunity to break even (let alone make a profit) on making games for the thing.
