It should be an update for both 3DS's, it makes no sense that only n3DS will have it.
It's a rumor. And therefore false until proven.
This also better include the original 3DSs, or it'll look like Nintendo is purposefully trying to segregate the masses. We've already seen with things like Gateway that disable region locking, so it sounds like it's software-based and not hardware-based.
Well, if that is true(For now, it is a rumor, so I don't really trust that), I will rage on Nintendo until they do the same on the "OLD" 3DS :|
I am pretty sure it is software-based, since Gateway can bypass it and the cartridge format is the same on all regions.
Start of region free gaming? Dude, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS games were all region free. 3DS was the first Nintendo handheld to feature region locking.
Actually, the Nintendo DSi was the first, but it only region-locked its "DSi-Enhanced" or "DSi Only" games
nintendo COULD do it... but seeing as they made it so that if you as so much as change your 3ds console country in the region setting, then when you go to eshop all of your downloaded eshop content gets removed (right?, it was something like that...) - i doubt they would update the 3ds to be region free...
lol, not going to believe it. not caring either
I sincerely doubt that the N3DS will be region-free - it's just another rumour spread by people who want miracles. Changed the thread title to reflect the fact that this is unconfirmed and likely false.
Never understood why they decided to place region-locking. Now that I think about it though, it probably has something to do with the fact that they hated how a lot of people were importing Pokemon games for the DS or something like that.
A rumors a rumor, nothing more
