Joystiq has learned that the previously rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will indeed launch this holiday season for Xbox 360 with a full visual overhaul. Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets. While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations.

The Halo: Combat Evolved remake is allegedly being developed by New Jersey-based Saber Interactive, the company behind TimeShift and Namco's upcoming Inversion, but we've been unable to confirm the nature of the engine powering it. We understand that it's something other than the Reach engine.

The Halo: Combat Evolved update, one of two Halo games currently in development under the watchful eye of 343 Industries, is expected to support 1080p resolution and 3D televisions. Details on multiplayer are supposedly still being worked out, but we understand the remake will likely feature online co-op (the original game supported two-player split-screen co-op).

The game is expected to re-evolve on November 15, 2011, ten years after Halo: Combat Evolved launched alongside the Xbox. Our sources didn't know of any plans to similarly upgrade the recently disconnected Halo 2, but it's hard to imagine Microsoft playing favorites with its biggest franchise.[/p]

One of the greatest games ever. It totally deserves a remake.

One of the most overrated games ever. Not a bad game but certainly not worthy of it's own reputation. Above average at best.

Then again, I only played the first one. Maybe they got better?

I was more going for the original Unreal and Deus Ex, maybe even Unreal Tournament (UT only updated graphics and not gameplay since UT > UT2k4 and UT3)

    Uh.. far from getting milked.

Except as of late, but now that's not Bungies fault. Halo 1/2/3 were all spread out evenly.

Also, if you're going to say "lol halo is getting milked" don't bother posting in here. If anything, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, Call of Duty, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts are all getting "milked" a lot worse. But like I said, if all you are going to say is "milking", don't bother posting, it's spam.

canon i think the meaning of milked is overrated... why arent zelda games called milked?
zelda games are around 30+ and ff at !!100+!! but considering other titles, ppl dont mention them... i guess nintendo are quite sincere, it is reflected upon their game buyers (ie. players)

this game has been famous but i think the xbox console didnt have as many players as the ps2 or ps1 so a remake at this time would be lovely

Halo was great for it's time, but now there is better stuff.

One reason why it was so great was playing multiplayer in person!

If they remake it, that aspect of it will be gone because it will have online, and it will be made with the Reach engine, so basically they're going to ruin a pretty good game.

Where in the article did it say that local multiplayer would be nixed? I don't see how that aspect of it would be gone. I only see Additional features.
