I said this is a rumor. I heard that just 1 day ago. I found some sources but can not get significant provements so i post this here. Please not reply with only something like "I hate piracy.." Because this is only a thing to be verified, not a thread for those debating about their opinion of the hacking. After someone checked it exactly i will close this.
The IRC log those news attached (but i think IRC log is nothing more than a joke if not confirmed)
I got it from those news (however the language is not english originally except the log)
Well.. Try to search Google with these terms "geohot 3ds" and you will get the links.

OneWithMoreDetail said it was on #3dsdev, However i'm not there when it happened.

If the guy should never be mentioned here, i apologize for your attention and will close this myself.
    Warning: Spoilers inside!

As many ones confirmed that should be a joke, then This is obviously a joke. I'll close this now. [7 Hours to close.. Why]

Well, I can only confirm that guy saying this, but if he indeed speaks the truth - who knows.

Even if the guy is telling the truth, I don't see how any of that indicates it's Geohot that's involved. The linked article just speculates it, seemingly out of nowhere.

I don't think this is real as it doesn't come from a reliable source, anyways even if he was able to dump the ram and sd card(whatever he means by this) what will he able to do? He's doing the same thing as neimod, I don't think the outcome of this will be any different than neimod's.

    The source is here:
    http://www.teknoconsolas.es/scene/noticia_geohot-podria-intentar-hackear-la-3ds/72164
It is in Spainish, in English is like this:

The popular and media hacker Geohot , hack known at the time the iPhone and then find a way to hack PS3, seems to return to the fray. This time to hack the 3DS.

Rumours say that is connected to the IRC by the alias "Bob" and that, as he says, would have found a way to dump the 3DS RAM through a fault found webkit browser engine.

Must await confirmation on this information and, if true, who wants to share it with people who are studying the laptop right now.

[0317] [20:45:24] <bob_>'m finally out of rop land, but native code is just more annoying exec
    [0317] [20:45:41] <bob_> c: \ wkc_release \ webkit \ WebCore \ rendering \ RenderTable.cpp
    [...]
    [0317] [20:47:30] <bob_> lol, or just use a webkit 0-day
[0317] [20:48:17] <bob_> who puts the kernel in it's own little chunk of memory shit?
    [ ...]
    [0318] [00:50:08] <bob_> all dumped
    [0318] [00:50:18] <Brian117|> what is
    [0318] [00:50:26] 3ds <bob_> ram, sd card very fast

So far i did not found this report on any famous website like the 3ds homebrew or homebrew connection, so i believe it is only a joke.

ps, i believe you have got phobia on bbs of tgbus.com, based on your red words.(感觉LZ在tgbus上被喷怕了,跑这边来也先声明正版党退散了)

I got this news first from Tieba.
The reason why i stopped posting on TGBUS is because one of the BZ Deleted my thread which i wrote to inform those who want to donate to the 3dbrew using Paypal. (He thought that was Ad but he can not recovery it after he received my message about that. Well this doesn't matter much now).
What you posted is what i got at the first time. but i find something about the IRC log. The source i posted on the #1 does show that it may comes from #3dsdev so i think that has more details in it so i chose that.
Well I found nothing English or on Homebrew site so i doubt its truth. It may be a April Fool's Day joke.
I post this only for proof that can confirm it is true or not. That's what i try to reminder others with the red.
The nickname 'bob_' is too bad for someone to chat on IRC as something like 'n00b2037' does, but that may be someone who tried hard to hide himself.

Just like every random idiot who's come here saying they've hacked the 3DS.. I'll believe it when I see it.

I completely agree with you on that. How many times have people claimed they hacked [insert random product], while it was a hoax? The internet is too naïve sometimes.

You know, I could actually make a "Geohot: Common Myths" thread, because of how often stuff like this goes around.

Also things like "Geohot's never hacked anything", where I need to point that scenes other than video games exist and he did a lot of the first iOS hacks, etc... can't tell you how many people shit-talked him in the early PS3 days when rumors started flying around, and I told them to fire up whatever iOS hacking app it was (one of the *rains or some shit like that) and click the "about" button, only to see their face when they read his name as the author, 'ya know?

He's got an attitude, but he's a legit hacker, so don't spread shit.

    I'm not saying that he's a fraud.
He did indeed do a lot for the iphone scene yep.

    But the PS3.
He stole the works of Bushing and Marcan and claimed that as his own.
That's something I didn't liked from him at all.

He didn't. The IRC logs were posted here at the time and said nothing of the sort, the person who first reported that misread it. Incidents like that are why I included "Go to the source" in this thread.
    http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-find-and-post-news.329408/

Because when one person mis-reads and then posts their own version instead of actual quotes, you get crap like this that lingers forever.

Got a link to the IRC logs?

I never been part of the PS3 scene but from my own observations, he did.
    Wait...
Didn't he also make one of the first CFW's besides KMEAW's?

IIRC what he actually said regarding the PS3 scene was something about releasing an exploit (not any full-on software) early that he found, but other people didn't want him to because they knew Sony would patch it before other people could develop stuff to use it properly.

Geohot, being from the iOS scene AFAIK, didn't give a shit. With iOS you can refuse software updates (and in fact updating the device is often a long process that you have to do manually half the time anyways from what I experienced with my iPad) so having an exploit for a software one major version behind wasn't considered a detriment, whereas with consoles where major software forces an update before you can run it (notedly unlike the mobile scene), having an exploit patched is a serious detriment.

However the story came out, people read "Devs don't want geohot to release the exploit they intend to use", people re-reported as "devs don't want geohot to release their exploit", then that got reported as "Geohot takes exploit from devs", etc.

As far as all the accusations people made of him in the iOS scene, and such, it's covered here.

Where you can see people are just misreading things.

I know Spanish very well, and here is a more accurate version I did myself. (fine-tuning my Spanish skills)

EDIT: Your translation is very good, almost the same as mine!!! I just fixed the grammar and changed some words to their grammar-specific English ones. You didn't

well this may be a april fool day joke.
However i found no way to close the thread myself (only close polls). Well please someone call for the moderator.
News all mislead you at some points. i can remember those speaking "Hackers crack the Nintendo 3DS opening its doors to pirated ..." or "Hacker unlocks the 3DS system kernel key to running pirated ..." or so on (search this term hacker 3ds piracy). that speard the false news in Jan (about the time neimod and yellows8 got some progress). They are s*** to frighten those to check the possible exploits, or are they trying to persuade the devs to run piracy? I hate them of their false accusation.
Rydian. Please help me call for the moderator. This rumor is verified already, but i have no access to close it myself.

I am sure the moderators know of this thread already, they have no need to be "called". If they wanted it locked, they could've locked it by now.

Just gonna throw in my two cents here as a native Spanish speaker:

    >[They] are telling rumors that he (Geohot) connects to the IRC using the alias "Bob" and that, according to them, he has discovered a way to dump the 3DS's RAM through a fault (exploit) he found in the webkit's navigation engine.

    >a fault (exploit) he found in the webkit's navigation engine.

    >a flaw (exploit) in the browser's webkit engine.

Probably referring to the 3DS's browser is what I read here.

That's what I was thinking too, but I saw the part of "webkit", so I wasn't sure if it was referring to the actual browser, the SDK for the browser (sdk = devkit, so web browser sdk might = webkit), or if it was referring to the engine the browser uses.
