I'll just buy a PS3 next year, then, if it will arrive late 2010. What a shame
I still don't know why people don't just buy a PS2 really cheap. They can be gotten for less than $100 now and the games are really cheap as well. Usually there are sales where they are practically giving the games away.
Sooner or later, the PS2 will be obsolete. If I were to give my opinion, the PS2 has already landed on our homes and some people already sold their PS2 console/s. I myself has a Wii and a GameCube but I would like to dispose my Gamecube. Same goes to the PS2 and PS3.
There are some people who dont have PS2 and since the PS3 is new, it's a great money saver to have both in one device. I myself would love to buy a PS3 with PS2 compatibility since I didnt had one since its launch. I love some of the PS2 games, though.
Since the PS2 has been announced to be compatible to the PS3, there's no reason to keep the PS2 except for those who collects.
It's hard to explain further but I think having a PS2 compatibility to the PS3 is kinda fun. That's just my opinion on the "previous and current" products/consoles.
If Sony will still support PS2 longer then I have no choice but to buy a PS2 but having the latest gadgets are so A MUST.
Front Mission 4 and 5 on my PS3 now will be possible, hopefully they will hit the Japanese PS store unless SE pulls a From Software and ports them to the PSP.
I can get it for $88 (KMart )
Well, it's obvious that's why emulation isn't available yet on the newer systems. It didn't take Sony long to realize there was still gold up in them PS2 hills. The tech is there and ready to go, but if they're still selling PS2 hardware that makes impressive NPD reports, they're not going to rush backward compatibility onto PS3. Besides, this will give them time to set up a segment of the PSN that's dedicated to PS2 classic downloads.
Late 2010 sounds about right on the money.
i think they are expecting all the games to technically finish by tht time so the emu will run as a "PSWare" concept ie. old game gen
Whatever. PS2 didn't have that many good games anyway. PS3 has waayy more. CoD, GTA, Oblivion, Demon's Souls, Madden, Orange box, Dragon Age, God of war collection, God of war 3, Assassin's Creed 2, CoDMW2, Rachet and Clank, etc.
Oh, you almost got me. Nice trolling.
lol Orange box
All the old PS3s can play PS2 games right? I have the PS3Phat, but there isn't a slot for me to put a PS2 memory card.
This is disappointing news, but at least I can use my ps3 to watch blu-ray movies and play little big planet until then!
you need a usb adapter to transfer saves across. and you need the original (80GB?) PS3 to play PS2 games. And on PAL consoles anyway, only some work. On Japanese all work, dunno what the deal is with USA consoles.
It will probably emulate those too like it does with PS1 games
This all Sounds pretty good ... they have talked about this for a long while and stated that in theory its entirely possible to do it all in emulation ..............So long as they don't limit this addition to be only available to the PS3 SLIM to push up the sales of the Slim!
they would have a big lawsuit on their hands if they attempted that
