As a disclaimer, if this guy made this up I can't help it. I am calling it a rumor so it could be true or might not be.

I don't have much time clocked in on the RE2 and RE3 remakes, and I pretty much stopped with the main series after 5. It seems I've missed quite a bit. Megamycete (We drifted into Last of Us fungus territory?) and a Goatman?

It'd be interesting to see these combinations of characters work together. The real question is if RE9's going to be third person or first person.

Oh yeah I mean 8 had werewolves and 7 had genetically enhanced humans. It's gone way off the beating path from just zombies.

The funny thing is how we got here. The Tyrant was the big surprise of the original, which made Mr. X and Nemesis intimidating. RE2 emphasized mutations due to overexposure to the virus, resulting in Lickers. Not to mention Birkin and the G Virus. The original three mainline games seemed to follow a coherent path.

CODE: Veronica made things more anime, if nothing else. RE4's story was a mix of serious and ridiculous. RE5 didn't hide from anything, I remember goo that could float around and form whatever it wanted. I'd like to hear fan opinion on when RE went off the rails. I'd say C:V or 5.

5 to me for sure. The series was created by Mikami and he left after Resident Evil 4 (he swore Resident Evil 4 would never leave Nintendo, and Capcom had other plans). 7 was sort of a revival in a totally different manner because it was first person, and the remakes were good, Revelations games although not considered to be main part of the series are good. I can live without 5, 6 or 8.

So true. The 7th gen had a ton of shakeups. It seemed like a lot of talent didn't fit in with the new development philosophies at the largest companies. Suddenly, big directors either disappeared or formed smaller/indie studios. (Inafune with Comcept and Mighty No. 9, Igarashi with ArtPlay and Bloodstained, etc.)

Hideki Kamiya created Bayonetta with Platinum Games, and fans got to see how the Devil May Cry design would have evolved. I guess The Evil Within is supposed to be the evolution of the RE4 design.

I never played The Evil Within 1 or 2, so I'm not sure how they actually compare.

Yeah I would recommend the Evil Within games, they're better than RE 5 and 6 IMO.
Really? That's interesting. I'm pretty sure I have both on my Steam account by way of bundles. One of these days, I need to check.

I didn't dislike RE5. The game was a bit shorter than RE4. The more restrictive inventory and partner (7th gen mandated multiplayer) mechanics were really the only changes to the gameplay.

I only played RE6 for about an hour. It truly didn't hold me, though I couldn't explain why. The gameplay seemed competent, though I recall it starts with 7th gen mandated slow walk. I hear it's really designed around playing with a second person, so maybe I should try it that way at some point.

Being honest with you, the co-op really changes things with both games. Played a shit ton of RE6 with friends, and besides all of the problems within the game, it was amazing. Same with RE5, but that game already have a better solo experience than 6.

But talking about the rumors, after the events of Village BSAA was already corrupted and Chris had shifted to Blue Umbrella and later went independent to investigate the BSAA shit, can't see why Jill would still work with them. Unless that's the focus of Jill's portion of the game. This would also explain Barry's participation as they are three of the founding members, and the story about investigating The Connections, as all of Eveline and the Bakers Incident was a big BSAA screw up.

Since you have a Final Fantasy VI reference as your avatar, I'm inclined to help you. This is all rumor. The topic title is marked with "rumor," and the Twitter post states that it's a rumor.

Now, the word "rumor" has no meaning to me.
i was bumping up my post count, this answer was a meme. i dont even care about RE9/ the RE series
