given how well the monster hunter franchise did on the psp in japan for both capcom [and sony], this is probably 90% already set in stone. however, I wouldn't be surprised if nintendo signed some sort of exclusive deal with capcom for MH4, so the title might be a reworked version of MH3G or, at the very least, release 4-6 months after MH4 for the 3DS

3DS Lite AND MH on the Vita? Kind of hard to believe it's true.

Of course it's coming for the Vita, maybe not 2012 (or it's the rumored 3HD).
But yeah 3DS lite + MH vita rumor the same day is hard to believe, also it's from Nikkei Trendy, not Nikkei :s

Much needed to boost sales although I prefer Ragnarok Odyssey coming in February over Monster Hunter which is of the same genre but fits my playstyle better (Speed and Combos).

...this is the part where I say "I told you so" to all the people who disagreed with me when I said that the Monster Hunter 3rd demo that was shown on the first showcase of the Vita (then still the NGP) was not just a demo of the PSP emulation feature. Capcom would all of a sudden decide to abandon the successor of the console that made Monster Hunter famous in the first place? Not in this universe, they like their monnies too much. Mark my words - this will turn out to be true and the 3DS games will look like watered down ports in comparison due to the vast gap as far as raw power of the platforms is concerned.

Aren't you going a little bit too far there?

You're right, it was bound to happen eventually cause its Capcom but we don't even know if this is true or not.

Yeah, it was announced back in November. I'm not sure how I missed that since I frequent that site all the time.

This isn't even a rumor. It's pure speculation from Nikkei Trendy (which isn't Nikkei). Monster Hunter is a game that focuses heavily on its ad hoc and generally stays on one console over the course of a generation. Monster Hunter 4 and any subsequent portable Monster Hunter games are going to stay exclusive on the 3DS so as not to split the userbase. If they do release a Monster Hunter game on the Vita, that would be a death wish for Capcom.

Excuse me, since when are Monster Hunter games exclusive to any platform? The games were released on the PS2, PSP, Wii, XB360, PC, iPhone and now we're about to get a 3DS release - that sounds like a pretty damn wide selection of consoles.

There is no such thing as an MH fanbase dedicated to a console. There's an MH fanbase dedicated to MH. If they released MH for microwaves, I assure you that the fanbase would happily stick their heads into theirs and turn the knob to full power.

Monster Hunter is typically on one console or portable over the course of a console generation.

    PS2
    Monster Hunter
    Monster Hunter G
    Monster Hunter 2

    Wii
    Monster Hunter G
    Monster Hunter 3

    PSP
    Monster Hunter Freedom
    Monster Hunter Freedom 2
    Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
    Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

    And now, 3DS
    Monster Hunter 3G
    Monster Hunter 4

Over the course of those system's lifespan, there has not been a single Monster Hunter game released on a competing platform excluding the Japanese/Korean only Monster Hunter Frontier MMORPG. Like I already said, Monster Hunter sticks with one platform over the course of the generation to not split the userbase.

Nobody says there won't be a Monster Hunter Vita that would be unrelated to Tri G or 4 story-wise. Tri and 3rd were released almost simultainously on two competing systems and nobody seemed to mind.

Monster Hunter wasn't popular until after Freedom 2, with Monster Hunter G being a port of a PS2 game on the Wii. There wasn't a reason to make a game multiplatform since it wasn't popular to begin with. It's not the first time a franchises userbase has been split.

The same could be said for other franchises, like Kingdom Hearts which started out as a Sony exclusive franchise, but branched out as it got more and more popular. Capcom are too money hungry to keep something like Monster Hunter platform exclusive.

This is a common strategy Capcom has always used: announce something as "exclusive" only to make a new entry or port it later. I good example being the Capcom Five for the Gamecube which were later added to the PS2.

Kingdom Hearts doesn't have an ad hoc userbase. It does no one any harm to publish games on different consoles. Actually Capcom would make more money keeping the Monster Hunter userbase on one platform than they would splitting it on the Vita and 3DS.
