Reading around a bit reveals that this rumor comes from a magazine called game lab, they've spread false rumors several times before, so it's still as unlikely as ever. A rumor about a home console release on the other hand would be much more believable even if the game has a multilayer on the go focus.

I don't think they would want to do that. It would create a split in the userbase, Imagine being a Japanese guy on the go and not being able to play MH with everyone because of it being on two different systems, the game is heavily focused on local multiplayer over there so it would make no sense to create such a scenario.
The 3DS is immensely more popular right now in Japan so even if they released it most people would just get the more common 3DS version all their friends have.

...Because you can't just buy it for the system that works for you.

...Or because Monster Hunter doesn't have a user base on Sony consoles despite every Monster Hunter game being Sony exclusive until Monster Hunter 3 or so?

Saying "they shouldn't put it on two systems because it'll create a split in the userbase" is like saying "Call of Duty should only be on the Xbox so it doesn't split the userbase."

It's incredibly elitist to say "I don't want my game to be multiplat because god forbid not everyone will play it on the same system I do."

Not that I care about MH4 on the Vita, Monster Hunter is bleh at most and there's bigger fish to fry for the console.

I'm not talking out of my own perspective, it's that the game doesn't fit for a multiplat release in Japan, the PSP had the game exclusively which worked, but having it on two systems would make it a hurdle for the fanbase since it's focused on multiplayer on the go, this isn't online oriented in Japan, unlike cod where you easily can find players to play against still then you most likely grab the version your friends play.

Imagine playing it on the train but half of your friends have the same game on the opposite platform. Of course I'm only talking about Japans perspective, here in the West it's much more doable.

I would most love to see MH on Vita, but MH4 to Vita within such a short amount of time (supposedly it took place during the delay - as said in the magazine) seems very unrealistic and would likely mean a crap port. The 3DS and Vita are significantly different in some ways and it would be very messy to port a game enhanced for 2 screens to one with just one single touch display.

Unless Cashcom had the intention of making the game on both platforms in the first place, that is.

Oops, hit reply instead of edit.
A Vita version wouldn't result in much profits either over there as the 3DS is already much more established.

Still, you buy the game for the system you'll play with people on. If your friends want the Vita version, buy the Vita version. If you want the 3DS version, buy that.

My Call of Duty metaphor still applies.

EDIT: And if this was the case then there'd be a complaint for every multiplat game. But there isn't.

Well, if you want to get Japanese gamers to buy into your handheld, Monster Hunter seems to be the way to go.

This is an unsubstantiated rumor, of course, but the idea isn't so far fetched - I'm sure Sony would pay a pretty penny for a guaranteed system seller.

As stated in another thread, the source for this news has a track record for publishing BS rumors such as these-

    - Dragon Quest 9 getting a PSP port
    - A new DS model will include a TV tuner and radio built in
    - Square Enix making a new DS RPG with Shonen Jump characters
    - Nintendo going to release an external hard drive for Wii

    And even more here-

Well I wasn't commenting on the existence of a Vita MH4, just that if it did exist, it wouldn't be an issue to anyone who wants to own MH4, it'd just expand the fanbase a little more and it's not like 3DS owner would lose out.

Capcom comments on Monster Hunter 4 Vita rumor

I would not believe everything you read on the internet. It will set you up for disappointment or misdirected frustration. - Christian Svensson, Capcom

This goes against every thing I have heard form what I hear Capcom was going to make Monster Hunter exclusive to the 3DS well at least on the portable side of things anyways.

Going to quote a post from another site explaining the problem with Monster Hunter on Vita and 3DS.
