Nintendo is modifying the Wii U so it can use Smartphones' apps and games. The Source said that with this Nintendo hopes to increase the Wii U sales also to have more popular titles.

Miiverse can now be accessed on PC and Smartphones.

A potentially interesting move if it comes to pass.

Taking bets on how Nintendo will hose it up.

Nintendo, when people tell you that the Wii U needs a killer app, I don't think this is what they mean.

This is a cool idea but I'd rather they do this for the 3ds.

    Puzzle & Dragon U?

But yes, I'd rather see more mobile games on 3DS. Since ya know, 3DS is portable.

Hmmmm, seems interesting, but at the same time that's not games.
Make games for the Wii U, I already own a smartphone, I don't need those same apps/games on my Wii U, I want Wii U games. >.<

This isn't a solution for the "haz no gamez" Ninty.

I find it really hard to believe Nintendo would just give up control and profits like that. At best, there going to make them easier to port and put them on the eshop. The smartphone games that have come out for Wii/DS/3DS so far (Cut The Rope, Burn The Rope, Angry Birds, etc) haven't done well because of the ridiculous prices.

Anybody who thinks for a second Nintendo is just going to let you play .apk s is delusional.

Smartphones is a broad term for a lot of things.

Nintendo, I'll be very disappointed if I don't have my Symbian apps on there :p1ng:

So how does that work? Are they going to build an emulator for smartphones games?

I think this is just a short-term fix. Blackberry offered something similiar so that people can convert android apps to work on their phone but I'm not sure if that helped them out in the end. In this case, I already own a tablet and smartphone so why would I buy a Wii U to play smartphone games?

I think it would be interesting if they imitated Sony & went for something similar to "Cross-Play", but change their version enough to avoid legal issues about copyright infringement. (Sony already has a better standing due to the 3D lawsuit)

I don't see why this would be a bad idea - the WiiU's tablet controller was already shown playing various minigames such as chess, the only difference now being that those games are "ready for porting". There's a good number of fun smartphone games and and apps out there, both casual and not-casual so preparing an infrastructure for them is not a bad idea at all - look at PSN Minis or PlayStation Mobile - those two appear to be doing perfectly fine, why would a Nintendo equivalent do any worse?

    Throwing milk at the bitches!
Not only that but the PS Suite framework opened up the Vita much more for indie games. Even though Nintendo doesn't have a phone or anything to hook this up to, creating a framework environment that works on multiple devices is never a bad thing.
