ROM Hack ROM hackin Question

Hey people, quick question. I tried my hands at ROM hacking and followed a guide that used XORPADS, I was told that I should get 6 but only got 3 and after decrypting I got no romfs folder, did I do something wrong? Can it only be an unmodified rom or can it be a rom that has already been hacked.
