I got message from other forum today. According to this:

Hey there,

I don't speak Japanese so I can't say which of the three is more accurate. I've seen the third one used before, and the first and third options are looking good. The second one doesn't sound natural and I'd avoid it.

Would appreciate a source since you have done your research though.

Definitely Fateful Showdown and Showdown of Destiny.

I would assume anyone with basic critical thinking/common sense can figure it out fairly easily, especially an old time gamer exposed to mass amount of cliche titles/plot:

The fateful showdown between xxx/The showdown of destiny between xxx, finally after this and that long of a time...

Fate of confrontation/destiny of showdown just sounds awkward themselves or as a title.

Now I am more curious about the source of your 'research' after googling and found nothing phrased as megaman fate of confrontation/destiny of showdown  Interesting way to increase post count though :D

What ? Are you jealous ? :rofl2: You assume wrong because I didn't mention source at all. I said I "research and found" and if I said source then I would post the source link right here.

No, I research both two things. Nothing to do with source. You are jumping to the conclusion. Be careful. One is Google translate with Japanese wiki language for Rockman 7and one from someone who responsible for Rockboard translated sent me the answer. Thank you very much.:creep:

Yo are definitely jumping to the conclusion, indeed. :teach:

It's a somewhat odd title in my opinion. It most likely refers to the fight between Rockman and Forte. However, since Forte is first introduced in this title and is portrayed as an ally for a majority of the game, calling their battle(s) in the fortress stages 'fate' or 'destiny' seems like a stretch.

Sometimes the literal translation from Japanese didn't make sense, I know.:blink:

that's why direct translations don't always work. I remember in my Japanese class, a text said "broken bone," but if you looked up the literal translation it would've been "fractured bone," does that really make sense in English? it was a Japanese translation class iirc, so you would've gotten marks off for that.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

that's usually why it's easier to translate something into your base or native language than the other way around. it was very easy to translate Japanese into English, because I knew multiple ways of conveying the same meaning. I chose what made the most sense with as little lose as possible. the other way around, English to Japanese, was much harder, because I wasn't fluent in Japanese. that's what makes learning any language harder.

Broken bone and fractured bone are both medical conditions, distinct ones in many ways though usually caused by the same things (someone falls over/slams into something/...), treated usually by the same specialist and with similar techniques unless the break is bad. Certainly if you are doing the interpreter thing and confuse the two in either an insurance claim or translating for family when in hospital setting you are going to get a lot of upset people on all sides of the equation there. I don't know what the Japanese is in this specific instance (and with all the nice compound kanji setups and borrowed terms then I don't even want to speculate) but fractures and breaks are things that happen to bones routinely enough.

As for the topic at hand.

Fateful Showdown. I would not ever expect to see this as a game subtitle. Name of a chapter in a book/game/film then absolutely. Name of a song, sure. Description in a puff piece on the back of a box, I would be surprised if even a snooker game did not feature such language.

Showdown of Destiny. Bit dramatic but more of a common/pleasing to the ear phrase in sub title world.
