I think you read it wrong.. he's asking to rip sprites form WiiWare games.. not Virtual console.

No, as far as i know, you can not rip WiiWare sprites..
when i open toki tori in tile molester, i just get weird shapes
tongue.gif

when i unpack the wad, and try to open the unpacked files, i still get the weird images
frown.gif

maybe i need to unpack it even more?

you have to know what you're doing. If you lack a clue, then you just have to wait/hope for someone else to write a simple tool for noobs to use.

(did it on an other game toki tori was too big, my pc couldn't handle it)
gameX.wad:
00000000.app->nothing special here
00000001.app->nothing special here
00000002.app:
GAME.DAT-> probably where all the sprites are located (header: 52 53 41 52...)
INFO.DAT-> nothing useful
00000003.app->nothing special here
00000004.app->nothing special here
00000005.app->nothing special here
00000006.app->nothing special here
00000007.app->nothing special here
0001000157444d50.cert->nothing special here
0001000157444d50.tik->nothing special here
0001000157444d50.tmd->nothing special here

ps: i suck at hex editting, can someone provide me a good tutorial for learning?
biggrin.gif

Well, you not alone on that, I've never done it by hex either. GAME.DAT seems to be the entire game, so that's where the sprites would be.

Most WiiWare data is encrypted in a ASH file, where nothing appears to be understandable.
A decryptor would be good, and it would allow game translations, image modifications and control over everyting the game has.

geez... you can extract sprites from roms because these systems are well documented and we know the sprite storing formats (binary speaking) for each of them...

but wiiware games are just like any other gc or wii games, there isn't such things as sprites for these systems, everything is probably put in tilemap textures and more probably compressed in a proprietary format that nobody knows... also, you could eventually extract textures files from a game disc but from a dol (which wiiware games are), it's just impossible to guess where texture data are stored

tell me the game and maybe i can rip it or tell you how to do it,
it's not really hard for me (i'm a programmer),

toki tori as an example isn't in a special format, all Sprites are in PNG or Wallpaper in JPG,
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5271/06...08203850tm6.jpg
the game i like the sprites from is toki tori
biggrin.gif

but the example i made was from dr. mario, because it was only 15 mb my pc could handle it
smile.gif

with toki tori my pc just hangs
frown.gif

is it much work to rip em?

Because people made tools for those. Real rippers can make their own tools and understand how to find the images in hex.

just unpack the WAD with WADTool, then unpack *.002.des (00000002.APP) and you get all files, they are png and jpg, so it's no work to rip them ^^

for Dr. Mario, it's an easy format, not much work to extract files out of this Game.dat

but what do you mean by "my pc could handle it" ? use a prog like Winhex and don't use common ROM ripping Tools.
