Nintendo NSider Forums Update



Nintendo is working on a major overhaul to Nintendo.com to support the continued success of Nintendo DS and Wii. As we prepare for this huge site update, Nintendo must unfortunately close the Nintendo NSider Forums message boards indefinitely beginning Sept. 17, 2007.


For more than four years, these NSider Forums have fostered engaging, robust debates, a strong community and friendships. While their future remains uncertain, in the interim we invite our fans to build on the spirit of community by starting their own Nintendo discussion sites. Remember also that the unique features available with Nintendo DS and Wii give Nintendo the opportunity to communicate directly with fans, while also enabling fans and friends around the world to communicate with each other.

Nintendo has the greatest fans in the world, and it is because of their support and passion that Nintendo DS and Wii have become so hugely successful around the world. We hope that the faithful Nintendo community members will look forward to the future games and website updates that will enhance Nintendo's global community of Wii and Nintendo DS owners.

Starting Sept. 17, existing NSider Forums will be available in Read Only format for one week. Private Messages will be disabled. On Monday, Sept. 24, the forums will be removed from public view.

They suck.

Personally, this is a very sad occasion for me. Though I have been frequenting this forum often since Rayder turned me onto it, NSider is still my main home on the Web. I've been a Sage there (please don't bother asking my screen name -- if you know me there, you should be able to figure that out) for a while now, and I'll miss the discussions. I hope they get back up & running soon.

You were a Sage there? I spent months trying to become a Sage, never succeeded.

What really pisses me off is that they are removing the entire forum from public view in a week. Someone needs to archive everything on the database.

Anyway I am archiving all my important posts, such as my reviews.

I always felt the Nsider forum was a little too... lax. Rampant non-contributive posts seemed to dominate help threads. I was also creeped out by how willing some kids were to ask me my personal information and be friends.

Think they'll replace it with anything else? Possibly more surveys?

Well, the letter explicitly states that they're doing a major overhaul. It doesn't say they're dismantling the forums. I also received a Sages-only survey from Nintendo that seems to suggest that there will, in fact, be a future for discussion and Nintendo. It might be under the guise of something other than NSider, but I'm fairly confident Nintendo will have another community for fans to gather on the Web.
