Does one always need to connect the USB drives to the PS3 Slim's right USB port or just when using PS3Xploit?

Also, I've read using a non-self-powered USB hub on the PS3 might screw up the devices connected to itself. Is it true?

EDIT: It seems one only needs to connect the USB drive to the PS3 Slim's right USB port when using PS3Xploit.

EDIT 2: Regarding the USB hub, I've been told if it's a non-self-powered it might indeed screw up the USB devices connected to it.
