Need your guys opinion: Would you personally wait until Adrenaline is updated with PSX support (through it's PSP emulator) sometime in February?, or are you all fine with using PCSX-ReArmed on RetroArch to play original Playstation games?

I was leaning towards PCSX-Rearmed since I can swap my save games with my Raspberry Pi 3 running RetroPie/PCSX-ReArmed, but PCSX-ReArmed on the Vita has me a little worried since it seems a lot more buggy than the Pi 3 version. I'm getting slight skips, weird pauses, some sound issues on the Vita, etc. (not to mention how I can't even put the Vita to sleep or RetroArch's PSX emulation freezes).

My brief time I had a PSP it seemed like PSX emulation on it was near perfect since Sony themselves wrote the code - and I would assume the Vita running PSP emulation would be the same, right?

What say you? I want to play Final Fantasy VII, and considering I logged something crazy like ~100ish hours the first time I played FFVII, I don't want to have RetroArch corrupt a save game or something half way through the game, and can wait for Adrenaline if you think that's the better course of action.

If you're that fond of FF7 (I'm not), I'd suggest just picking it up from the Playstation Store. That way you'll have it and be legally entitled to it. You won't have to wait for anything. You may have to pass it from a PS3 to a Vita to keep the latter system at its current firmware, though.

Barring that, wait for Adrenaline. It's anyone's guess as to when the new version will be available, but I wouldn't waste time playing the game on an imperfect emulator.

Actually, I already own FFVII, VIII, IX (and X and X-2 for the Vita) believe it or not (the latter is part of my Playstation collection - and part of the reason why I still own a 260 pound 36" CRT TV) - I'm just trying to get the best experience on my Vita without dishing out more cash for something I already own.

I am new to vita but i have installed cfw on regular psp's many times. I have some questions. The vita im getting has 3.01 fw. From what ive read I need to manually update to 3.60 and use HENkaku. Then install retroarch all in one through ftp. Where do i put the retroarch apk? Then where do i put the roms/iso? My vita wont be here till Saturday but I want to be ready. ;)

You'll need to transfer files using Vitashell, maybe also Molecularshell will work, but I didn't try. Vitashell is something like "the unsure and unlocked version of Molecularshell", with it you have access to files which you should not touch.

That being said, you can transfer through USB the files, and actually there is no specific need for a precise location where to put them.
Vitashell (or Molecularshell) is able to install a vpk from every place on your PSVita, so you just have to place it somewhere, install it through the shell, then you can delete it.

Roms instead need to be where you can access them easely, I am not sure if Vitashell has a default dir, but you can set that inside RetroArch's UI. I've placed them in data/ROMS/ inside which there are the folders for every console, and inside those the actual roms or isos. The place where you can set the default dir is this one:

2017-01-24-173532.jpg

I did set it into ur0 (which is not the SD) to use the extra space inside the console itself. Not something recomended by some people, but I yet didn't find that this was the cause of any issues.

Then you can find them through the "Load Content" voice, or you can create playlists, but I am not sure about how to do it. You can scan the directories to find roms that will be automatically sorted by console in the main menu, but I did find this system to not completely work. Some games still didn't manage to get into that list, I don't know why.

I had a PSVita which was 1.70 I belive, I updated it at 3.60 straight away. It was like 5 days after Henkaku happened. So I don't know if there are any benefits, by a direct experience.
What I know is that at a lower firmware (3.57?) there's the ability to play PSX isos using Sony's Emulator under PSP emulation, exactly like the bought games from the PSN. However right now RetroArch has an acceptable PSX emulation, and in a month could arrive the same feature for 3.60 (it's possible, it's only that TheFlow is still working on it). PSP emulation is pretty much available freely, apart from PSX emulation, right now. Most of the homebrews (lastest ones at least) are only 3.60 compatible, as Henkaku offers features older exploits didn't have.

My opinion would be to go to 3.60, but if you're curious, you can do some researches about it, and take a decision. Remember: after an upgrade, there's no downgrade.

Wow thank you for that info. For me, I want to play nes, snes, n64 mostly and vita games from memory stick if possible. I would like to be able to play psp iso's too so I can sell my old psp. Is that possible on 3.60? I dont care about any PSN stuff. I dont care if i can download PSN content at all. I looked it up but this stuff changes from day to day and the page i found said psp games couldnt be played on 3.60 henkaku.

The main issue is that Adrenaline, the PSP emulator, is obtainable only using a PSP game downloaded from the PSN, which is not possible anymore. There are some other tutorials on how to get it through PS3, or even a PSP I think, but that's much harder to do I think.
All the other things you mentioned are possible on 3.60, except N64 emulation, which currently is only possible through DaedalusX64, which is a PSP homebrew*. I heared that VHBL is possible even on 3.63, but I didn't do researches on the matter, and so I don't know if it has the same limitation of Adrenaline.

A good news site is Wololo.net, you can find there plenty of reliable news on the PSVita world and more.

*There are some expectation about a N64 emulator happening soon, a CPU-based emu is being tested on PSVita (at an unplayable framerate), and recently hackers got access to the PSVita's GPU, which could mean soon or later a n64 emulator could happen on PSVita. Nothing on the emu is released, or has a release date

@ckylesworld1,

For PSP games and homebrew, you need to install Adrenaline, which requires you have a PSP demo on your Vita.

Here is a picture of my PSP on top, and Vita running Adrenaline on bottom. No PSP screen compares to a Vita.My Vita is the phat version with OLED screen, which I like more than a Vita Slim.

Fillipo,

It's not possible to transfer a demo from a PS3 to a Vita any more? I still have the demo on my PS3 that I transfered to my Vita to install Adrenaline, and wanted to do that same process for another Vita for my brother.

Fillipo,

I didn't hear about anything proving it, and I have not a PS3, as far as I know it is still possible, but I didn't really look into it, since as I've said I have not a PS3.
Notice that to transfer it, you have to have your account on both devices, and I don't know if it's still possible to activate a PSV at fw 3.60. I think it's still possible after a factory reset, but I did test it when there was 3.61, and it was not spoofable yet.

I installed Adrenaline on my Vita with FW 3.60 (spoofed to 3.63), I was able to add it to the same PSN account as my PS3 (which also has CFW).

I just want to be able to do the same with my brother's Vita with 3.60/Henkaku.

Boxarts worked for me. I did exactly the same as you did.
Double-check if the names of the games (both the filename and the displayed name inside the playlists) are the same as the pictures (or vice-versa).

Yes, it's was my fault, i found wrong names.

I have another question, why retroarch, after folder scan add 70% of my roms?
If i open not added files - they working normally!
