The Retake Mass Effect charity drive ended yesterday after the charity for which it raised $80,000--Penny Arcade's Child's Play--asked it to pull the plug.

Apparently some of the people giving to the cause seemed to think that they were paying for a new ending to Mass Effect," Holkins said. "[Child's Play's project manager has] been asked what the goal is, and how much they need to raise in order to get the ending produced. We've also been contacted by PayPal due to a high number of people asking for their donations back. This is in addition to readers who simply couldn’t understand how this was connected to Child's Play's mission. We were dealing with a lot of very confused people, more every day, and that told us we had a problem."

So it all went to charity, though no one really knew it was going to charity, and instead thought it was going towards a fund...thing for a new Mass Effect ending? That's uh...confusing. Child's Play is a charity...it's not Kickstarter or...something like that...I think?

>We just spent a ton on a game with a shitty ending. Let's dump MORE money into a charity we didn't read so we can pay for the game AGAIN but with a different ending, like a director's cut.

Gamer logic.

Don't misconstrue this guys. It is true that some people did ask for their donations back, but the entire idea for the charity was to not only draw attention to the ME3 ending, but to donate to a good cause. It seems they pulled the plug after these nitwits asked for donations back. All in all they raised a shit ton of money and I'm sure Bioware realized how much money they were missing out on if they suddenly decided to release a "true" ending. I'm one of those guys that believes this was the plan all along, after all, EA isn't above that.

Every group or movement has its bad apples, though I am still amazed at their well, I can only say stupidity, dunno what other word to use.
Must take one hell of a thought process to misunderstand a charity for something like this.
Sad thing is, this will lead to other people pretty much generalizing(Is that the right word to use here?) the entire movement and labeling all of them the same :C

The goal was to use the donation drive to draw attention to their own cause: Mass Effect 3's shitty endings.

It's not the drive's fault or the charity's fault if people don't actually read and don't know what they are donating to.

Gamer logic.

$60 is "a ton" nowadays?

Plus I doubt any fan would say the whole experience of ME3 is bad. If they have any complaints it would be on the ending. Everything leading up to it is exceptional, and if you like the ending (like me) then you'll find the package as a whole was fantastic. I know it's supposed to be the punctuation on the end of a gripping series and, to some, if floundered, but the game itself was well crafted, and the ending, either way you look at it, had some strong moments. If you're displeased by the last minutes of a game to the point where you think you blew $60 on it then you're just annoying.

Even then, hate the single player all you want, the multiplayer is still fun as shit.

I never played Mass Effect 3, all I know is everyone and their grandma wouldn't stop telling me how shitty the ending was.

That's kind of messed up. "What!? My money went to CHARITY!? GIVE IT BACK YOU THIEVES!"
Well, seeing that those people who donated had no idea this was a charity drive were pretty stupid in the first place.

It's sad to see some people thinking money is better spent on working on new endings for some game than changing lives via donations
