I've been wondering if this is possible yet.

I have 9.2 with gateway.

I have SMTIV retail cartridge with my save

I want to have my save working on a dump of my own game/random rom of same game so that I don't have to lug the game cartridge around.

Every other game I started over but this game in particular I have a lot of stuff.

Dump the game and find out. From what I've read, the game would need to use 512KB save in order to work. I don't know how to find that out other than actually going through the steps, but it's fairly quick and painfree, so try it and let us know.

No, SMTIV doesn't use 6.0+ save encryption. It most likely has to do with the size of the save file.

I read the save data mega guide and I'm not entirely sure how to approach this.

it has to be 512kb from what I gather, how do I make it that way if it isnt?

You can't change the save type. If it's not 512kb, you're out of luck.

Actually, he's not. SaveDataFiler can extract the save if run in Palantine or PBT CFW. If you've already got a PBT card for running DSiWare, just install SDF on it, and then you can dump your save (go to CTR Card, Y, A). Also install SDF in EmuNAND on your normal card. Then select SMTIV in the ROM menu and run SDF again. Go to the SD tab. Select your save, hold L, hit A, hit A again. Now, due to the way GW mode works, it creates a save for the app that is running. So, instead of going to SMTIV, the save actually went to SDF. Easy to fix though. Look on your internal card for a file named "000400000FF40A00.sav" and rename it to SMTIV's title ID. If you're not sure what that is, an easy way to find out is to launch the game and exit before you restore the save. Then you'll have a new save created right before SDF's. Copy the name, delete the file, paste the name to SDF's file. Now, go back into GW mode and load SMTIV. If you did all this correctly, your save should be there.

So far I've been able to do this with Castlevania: Mirror Of Fate and Zelda: OoT 3D without issue.

P.S. Looks like there's a new plugin for NTR as well. Based on the description, it should also be able to handle 6.x ROMs. Looks promising, but I haven't tried it yet.

Ah. I haven't been keeping up with CFW news (since I have yet to know of a benefit over using GW in 4.5), so I didn't know this was possible. Neat.

Actually, I wasn't paying any attention to it either. Then I saw they had DSiWare working. I've been wanting to play "Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition" for a while (missed out on the limited time eShop giveaway). Aside from DSiWare and SDF, I've found one more use for 4.5 CFW so far -- running Ninjhax when you're EmuNAND's higher than 9.2. The 4.5 QR code works great. Of course, if they ever get sound in the PRBoom CIA, there won't be much use for Ninjhax.
