Hacking Resident Evil Translation

Is there a tool that can edit the text in Wii games? Since RE and RE0 were released in Japan only for wii, I would like to try and copy the text from the original RE for GC. It would take time, but not as long as a complete translation (Since it was already translated.)

not that easy. It's easy to text hack older games already using the american alphabet then taking kanji and putting in text. You have to change the images if I recall first, unless it already has it built in(which it does) but you also have to figure out how to use that text. It's not a simple matter of copy and paste. Maybe somebody can give a better explanation.

Hmmm... well if they are pictures, couldn't you replace the pictures from the GC version?

xcuse me, but isn't Bioshock 0 for the wii voiced in english and has english subs for most parts (The jap one, obviously)?

The audio is in english but all the subs and text are in Japanese.

Exactly, so if they are simply pictures, can't one just replace the pictures from the GC english game? Is there a program out there that can do that?

it's not that e4asy! You people don't listen at all. Sure mayeb the gamecube does have everything needed. Now go decrypt the Gamecube game to rip all the data, find the data you need, decrypt the Wii game, find the data you need, replace the data, trucha sign and pray to god it works. Even this sounds easy but it isn't. If it was wouldn't you think somebody would of done it by now? Internet Fame is something every body wants...I wish somebody who translates games alot can explain...

Thats how alot of Jap companies make games that are released in more then one region (Since this is a port of a game released over the world). The language is in English (probably because a large majority of the world population speaks English), and they use Japanese characters. This is not always the case, but for the most part,

@Dookieman: In DKJB and Pikmin the text is in the message.arc you can extract them with these tools

But i have looked now in Biohazard and at the moment i can´t find the text files and if they are compressed it will be not that easy
But at least the Font Table has the western alphabet

translating a ds game is already tough(128 mb or 64 most of em are that size)

Large game does not mean more text. These games probably have roughly the same amount of text. Large 3D graphics hog alot of memory vs 2D DS games. Game length would generally have more text.

I think the text is in the .EGM files but i´m not sure.
Can someone with a english GC Version of the game look if the files are the same !?

I had looked at it but the problem was that there are many files that i can´t unpack

(fpk files)
And in the others i couldn´t find the text.

No unfortunatly because of this there is no experince with it.
But DKJB and Pikmin should work except they check anything special like the checksum of files or so and like i said i found the Text in this games.

No.

Only "Translations" that have been done were to undub some games.

An example is Tales of Symphonia. People took the US release and replaced all of the audio/video with the Japanese ones.
