What reasons are there for not doing that?
In terms of actual stability or so, moral reasons I don't give a fuck lol
In terms of plain functionality it can be a bit a a pita to install. On atmosphere you either have to use a custom kip or install an unofficial fork. Hekate can't be used to boot your Switch either it has to be fusee

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I hadn't even considered that, does it also install the 1.0.4 update?
Yeah everything was installed from the 1 XCI, both the base game and 1.0.4.

Oh yeah I think the sigpatches actually have a zip specific for use with Tinfoil, I'm guessing that's the one for it.
So I should give that a try and see if that helps?
Getting both RE5 and its update as a XCI and try installing that with Tinfoil?

I'd say it's definitely worth a shot. It worked for both Doom 1 and 2 for me so it'll hopefully be a similar situation for RE5

XCIs don't have a ticket right, so maybe that has something to do with it? I wonder what ticket Tinfoil uses, when installing an XCI? The first thing I did when I had issues with the nsp was clear the tickets, but it didn't help.

Iirc I think either Tinfoil or one of the Awoo/Tinleaf installers can remove the ticket from an installed title.
You could try that, maybe?

It was the Initialize Console option at the bottom, basically a full system format. I believe this also requires you to reformat your SD card after the reset, so you would have to reinstall everything from scratch - in other words, I formatted both my Switch system memory and SD card. I have the install files of the games I'm currently playing on my PC so it was simple enough to reinstall them on my Switch, otherwise I think you would need to backup anything you want to keep.
I tried this today.
I backed up EVERYTHING from my SD card in case it all went south (because I know my kind of shit luck), and interestingly enough, it doesn't format your entire SD card, it simply deletes everything inside the "Nintendo" folder and reinitializes the console and its contents.

What's even more interesting is that...

Resident Evil 5 now works!
And with the same NSPs for base and update that I was trying before!

I don't know what the heck the problem was, but I simply went into the "Initialize console".
I first tried doing the "Reset cache" option, but that didn't do anything in terms of booting up RE5.
I then selected the "Initialize console" option, and reinitialized the whole process as if it were a fresh start of the console.
All of this with Kosmos+sigpatches I already had on my SD, and at no point I had to get the SD out during the process (not even when it needed reboots).

So since I dumped my installed games with NXDumpTool, all I had to do was simply reinstall everything, and now all my games are working properly!

I had the same issue and this is how I fixed it, even when updating the sig patches didn't work:

1. I use kosmos too so first I backed up my saves just in case using checkpoint (you can use edizon too) although nothing should
happen to your saves or profile buuut just in case.

2. Back up any cheat files or whatever that you may have.

3. now turn off system, go to sd card delete EVERYTHING except the "nintendo" folder and "switch"
folder. Also keep any folders you created like a "roms" folder, an nsp folder, etc

3B. grab the latest tinfoil nro file (if you use that) and overwrite the one in the switch folder you left
behind on your sd card.

4. Copy and paste everything from the new kosmos 15.3 zip file to root of your sd card.

5. now go get the sig patches, the zip file you want is "kosmos patches 3-15-20 bootconfig-tinfoilv8+.zip"

6. copy and paste the contents of that zip to the root of sd card, if prompted to overwrite/replace say yes.
if you need to rename the hekate to "payload.bin" if your injection method requires to do so, then do it.

done. boot into CFW

IF for some reason those games still give you errors:
at this point, you'll need to delete the games that are giving you problems (while hovering over the game on your main menu hit + button then "manage software" then delete. It will delete the game, update, dlc etc.) It will NOT delete the nsp, xci..etc just the installed game

then go into goldleaf v0.8 , then "manage console contents" , then "un-used tickets"
here delete all the tickets that appear.

now reinstall those problem games... they will work again!

It could've been just a damaged app record or archive bit issue, using tinfoil (GUI) to uninstall the game would have been what I would try.

Tinfoil 8.1 (homebrew) has a feature to uninstall the installed contents. Try doing that next time if any game crashes instantly on launch.
That's good to know.
Is there any specific option in Tinfoil that I should be looking for if I stumble into the same issue again?

go to installed category, click the installed game that crashes, then click uninstall.
Awesome, thanks!
I'll keep this as a reminder, hopefully it doesn't happen again, but if it does, now I know what else to do as an option that doesn't involve almost doing a full system format lol

Thank you for the post, your "initialize console" fix worked for me too. I guess updating with chouj whatever its name is messed up something
