It's very helpful. I also didn't know an app already existed for this, though when I searched for it just, I couldn't find any info on it apart from that it's part of some AIO.

I have another version that should fix the crash you're having. Would you mind testing it for me again please?

    Another day, another update

    Version 1.1.1:
    • Fixed crashing on fw 9.1.0 when trying to change the pin.
Here's an explenation for the crash.

This crash was because on fw 9.1.0+, the number of sessions for pctl was limited to one for the applet. This meant that if another session was open when trying to launch the appley (in this case, change the pin), it would fatal.

Thank you to Behemoth for finding this issue and thanks to WerWolv for telling me about it. Also thanks to Daniel C for testing this fix for me.

I totally agree this app is wrong I have a son that uses my cfw Switch that needs parental controls on it, this is not good! and he knows about a hacked switch and it probably wouldn’t take him long to find out how to use this, well said!

Edit: I was actually hoping something like this app wouldn’t happen..

    @TotalJustice this app is pure shite...so FUK.U!

    That's a bit harsh, don't you think?

There are much worse homebrew apps that your son might find:

Looks like in your signature you have 2 Switches. Why not leave one hacked for yourself and have the other one not hacked for your son? Or just a crazy idea, and be a parent and keep an eye on what your son is doing on the Switch. You hacked your Switch which circumvents any protection that Nintendo provided, including parental protection. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

no one cares, especially kids, about comicnx. And, I’m not trying to knocking awoo at all, but generally kids don’t have any use for awoo, as there are better installers for them. And awoo isn’t even that bad, bit edgy but a lot of that will go over kids heads anyway.

pretty sure the last person any parent should be taking parenting advice from, are from non parents

I can tell you that reecy has an sx license, and there is a good chance he uses tinfoil or sx installer which has parental controls of its own.

this app has no legitimate use :)

my switch is pretty locked down, I have my own custom parental stuff too. I have the skills to work around stuff like this, but most parents do not ubfortunately

This app does have legitimate use though. I literally made this app to help someone remove parental controls from a preowned switch. When I posted this release on reddit, I had a number of people that were grateful for something like this as they didn’t want to go through the hassle of getting the device ID.

Looks like you are making some assumptions there, buddy. Yes I might not have any children of my own because I wasn't blessed with the gift of fertility, and defiantly can't have any now after transitioning. I am, however an aunt of 4 children and they are just as much my own children, as they are their parent's children.

I honestly could care less if Reecy use SX, Kosmos or Atmosphere. (Or your software for that matter.) Parental controls are not a replacement for actual parenting. If your kids are trying to get around parental controls to play a game, or look at something they shouldn't then something else has broken down way before the point that they download this software.

As for legitimate uses for this app I can think of one if you bought a Switch from someone second hand and they forgot to remove parental controls. Also this app isn't anything new you could have done this before: https://mkey.salthax.org/

Next on to your "super locked down Switch"... If you believe in this so much why don't you release that custom parental stuff you have created for other lazy parents that don't find any interest in what their kids do or think?

Edit: I'm going to leave it at this just so this thread doesn't get locked. Go ahead and reply if you wish.... This is an amazing tool to help people that buy second hand Switch's that are locked by Parental Controls. Keep up the great work @TotalJustice !

It's not something I think most people would be interested in, as it prevents homebrew from running. Anyone can get mostly there by just stubbing hbl.nsp.

As for accidentally buying a switch with a PIN lock? yeah that's a stolen switch, even less sympathy to write software to help people break into fenced goods :rofl2: And there are still ways to unlock it, without an easy childproof way to do it.

There is no breakdown in parenting if kids are trying to bypass parental controls, that's exactly what kids try to do as @iriez said. Challenging authority is part of growing up. Now that I think about it, my very first hacking project was getting around the school's locked down computer security. You cannot watch a kid 24/7, especially a kid that is hell bent on doing something wrong.

I think you underestimate how my parents give hacked switches to kids with parental controls enabled, and this does not make their job easier, only harder. I personally give out hacked switches galore every Christmas like santa claus.

The fact that you don't see the issue with this, tells me that you are not the cool aunt that bestows hacked switches to the little ones for christmas :P

And just for the record, Tinfoil was written for 5 year olds to use. Back when switches were first hacked, it was not friendly for young children to use. I changed that, as usability for young children is my top priority. Its the reason Tinfoil is the only homebrew app that has parental controls. Its the reason Tinfoil is so simple to use, even a 5 year old could do it. Even my website has a filter for children to browse: https://tinfoil.io/Title/Filter/

If parental controls don't stop your kids from doing things you don't want, you could always pull a gun on them.

(This is obviously a joke, what kind of person would do that and call themselves a parent?)

When I see comments in this thread, I have the same face as @TotalJustice avatar. :D
If you have complaints, then be better and do something that will make editing parental control not possible to do. :D

I don’t think the judges comments above quite understand what this app achieves, if my son accessed it which is not difficult for him he would be able too access eshop purchases on my debit card also he could turn off how long he uses it for and also the most important part for me is him being able to access my whitelist of titles and this is so important!! Like blawar mentioned above please don’t judge me on what I thinks best for my own child and this app does just that it interferes with me as a responsible parent and now I’m going to have to check his Nintendo Switch every time he wants to use it. Also what you don’t understand is I’m not with his mother anymore so I only see my son when I can so I would like to spend more time on what’s important not worrying about what he may be doing with his nsw.

Wow... some people here should really rethink about their parenting if this little tool is beyond end all. It's just a bypass for the msalt method.

If you guys care so much about your children, be with them. Teach them rather than lecture them. Also if you think your debit card is "safe" because it's locked behind a parental control. You got more worries. Never ever save your credit cards etc. It's not safe.

Now, if you wanna have a proper discussion how parents should be have or not. Start a new thread, this isn't one for it.

Really, what is there on the Switch that has to have a parental control set up? Legitimate question, guys.

My kid doesn't care for violence, unless breaking Lego figures is considered as such. The "best" games are fairly innocuous.

    @TotalJustice
Good job, friend. I believe you saved some people out there.
