The homebrew channel is safe if used correctly.

People seem to love scare mongering about here.

If you update it and it bricks, then you probably did something stupid like turning off the power when it was updating.

Homebrew is perfectly fine and the risk of it bricking your Wii when you're using it sensibly is less than 1%.

If you're using a homebrew application like AnyTitle Deleter and you delete your system menu. If you're just gonna use emulators, play homebrew games, watch movies, etc, then you'll be fine. If you're gonna dig into the depths of your Wii and try to install new system menu themes, preloaders, and a bunch of other more complicated stuff, you should know what you're doing. If you don't, you'll come back here with a "HELP! BRICKED WII!!!" thread and you won't be treated ever so kindly.

What the heck are you worrying about???? Homebrew is perfectly safe. And you need Homebrew to run backup loaders and other stuff. Stop worrying and just use it. Updating your Wii with Homebrew wont brick it. The worst that can possibly happen is that Nintendo will issue an update that removes Homebrew or stops it from working.

he should get preloader. if he wants to get wiiware games he needs wad manager so preloader would be good. don't get custom themes or crap like that. all i have is wad manager some wiiware games, and some emulators. the only thing though wad manager wont work on 4.0/4.1 without getting some custom IOS files but even with those files you could still update by the disk channel.(im pretty sure hopefully some1 can confirm)

Also the ticket is still installed even though you formatted it. It's possible to detect it was installed.
